Profile of a budgeting mum: Maggy Woodley

An interview with Maggy Woodley

What’s your name?

Maggy Woodley

redtedart

Any kids?

Yes two… they go under the alias “Red Ted” (4yrs old boy) and “Pip Squeak” (2yrs old girl)

Do you work?

No, not in the traditional sense. I am a stay at home mom, making pocket money through blogging and related activities.

Why do you work?

My blogging activities give me a pleasant distraction and “adult stimulation”. As well as being a creative outlet and focusing some of my activities with the kids.

What are your childcare arrangements?

n/a a blog around my kids’ schedule

How do you manage for money?

We work around my husbands income. Before we had children and we first bought our house, we budgeted for a potential future income of one. This allowed us to plan for children and the option to “stay at home”, as well as potential redundancies or illness. You never know what will happen.

Do you worry about money?

No

What do you waste money on?

Children’s books. Lots. I try and go to the library to avoid this. But cannot help myself.

How do you make extra cash?

See above, through blogging and related activities (i.e. social media – twitter parties etc)

Please share 3 top budgeting tips –

  • Clothing exchange with friends – what goes around comes around. Our biggest “saver” has been dressing our kids in 2nd hand clothes. But make sure that you pass things on too
  • Always do your food shopping when you are NOT hungry and with a shopping list
  • Use freecycle – again give your things away to declutter but also find things you need (e.g. we have Red Ted’s first big bed from free cycle and have given away old chairs, an old camper and laminator etc etc)
