Today – How to make extra money when you are a stay at home parent
When you are a stay at home mum or dad money is often quite tight and you may well look at ways to earn extra money from home. It is not easy managing on just one come (and that’s only if you are in a couple and your partner has a job)
I did all sorts of things to make ends meet when I was a stay at home mum. I was in this position for 6 years so it is quite a list!
I used to buy books from car boot sales to sell on Amazon .This was hard work and only occasionally would I fall upon a real gem and where on earth to store all those dusty books!
I would also sell stuff on eBay and I was a regular at the post office. I would sell on clothes, cots, buggies etc at NCT sales as soon as the kids grew out of them.
I delivered yellow pages (yawning and legs aching) . I did some marking for my old job Still do actually – don’t completely cut your ties!) . I dallied with mystery shopping. I took part in lots of online surveys .

I even wrote a book about this subject in order to to share what I had learned with other parents (and with the hope of making some money too!…despite selling a few thousand I am not even nearly making any money from my book – you wouldn’t believe the profit margin!)
Later I bought a baby signing franchise and 1 morning a week I would run a group teaching babies to sign whilst my own baby came along for the ride,. These were happy and sometimes lucrative days. I met many fabulous new people this way too. My best extra way of making money during this time . I hope you find what floats you boat.
Avoiding work from home scams is really important, you absolutely don’t want to waste your time or end up out of pocket so I would really advise that you check out thoroughly any schemes you are getting involved in. Some schemes like Phoenix cards and Usborne have been around for ever and you are bound to know someone doing them already. Ask around. Search for recommendations. Check out sites such as Surveycompare.net who give advice on what to avoid. Be savvy and smart if something looks to good to be true…you and I both know sadly it almost always is.
I would also advise rather than spend hours desperately trying to make money. learning to live in less is really vitally important. You want to enjoy your time as a stay at home parent not spend every hour working from home. So budget budget buudget and frequent budgeing blogs and websites to pick up great tips! Also try asking okder relatives how they made ends meet when they had kids, they are a font of useful information when it comes to this subject. And do check out your benefits and make sure you are getting all that you are entitiled too .
Good luck – there are so mnay ways How to make extra money when you are a stay at home parent that I know you will find one that is right for you and your circumstances. You can find more of my baby budgeting tips here
