Furnishing tips for a child’s bedroom

Those of you that read both my blogs will know that over at Family Budgeting I have recently embarked on a home makeover on a budget. We have started off by tackling the lounge and it is really taking shape.

Furnishing tips for a child’s bedroom

I have been pondering making over the children’s bedroom as we do up the house and I wanted to share my thoughts on what our problem areas are and see if you have any fab ideas to share. I’m hoping you do.

The problem

My son has a medium-sized room but it gets completely overrun with his comics and endless mountains of books. I have contained the Lego into one giant storage box but it’s not pretty. He has lots of little bits and bobs, Moshi monsters and go-gos that end up everywhere.his desk is always overflowing and I find felt tips on the floor and paper with half-drawn cartoons on everywhere. Broken toys abound but he never wants to get rid, He wants a bunk bed but I think it would just create further work for me making two beds up each day. There is no way he would just sleep in one bed.  His room always looks like it needs a good tidy up.

Possible Solutions

I know it is probably very normal but I definitely think we are in need of better storage. I’ve seen some fabulous Lego bricks storage boxes that store on top of each other. Maybe simply buying a bigger desk with more drawers would contain the paper and pens? I’m thinking a cabin bed may be a better idea than bunk beds because more storage could fit underneath it and this way we would release some space in the rest of the room.   I’ve been having a browse around the internet finding tip s and ideas for the makeover.  The internet is a great place for more information on the types of beds that are out there and the sort of storage available.

Ultimately I think a major declutter and a comic haul are do. I am going to arm myself with cardboard boxes and get them archived up the loft. I could open a Beano shop we have so many!! That’s certainly a very ‘on budget’ solution to the bedroom chaos don’t you think!’

Do you have any great storage or furnishing tips for a child’s bedroom?

hi both my kids have the ikea expedit bookcase , we have the 8 box vertion which is a goood bedroom size we also have 6 storage boxes to fill the gaps and leave two open for display items (some books and a special harrods bear).
They have been great storage we have one storage box for games one for school bag and homework one for lego etc so easy to find what they need 🙂 and they come in all diff colours from wood to white so can match in with the rest of the room.
I love them because all the toys are hiden and the room looks tidy 🙂
we have the pink storage boxes for my daughter and the black ones for my son and the boxes were about £2.50 each and a very sturdy the unit itself was under £70.
they do have smaller size ones that are a bit cheaper too.
Good luck in your makeover its always nice when its done its just getting to that point 🙂 x
