Wild Swimming Coast is by Daniel Start £14.95  Punk Publishing (avaiable on Amazon)

This is again a  thick, glossy book just waiting to inspire you. It is packed with gorgeous photos of places all over Britain’s coastline  where you can swim, these are the best kept of secrets and I had no idea our land had such hidden gems.

You can click through the image to buy in Amazon currently £8.37

It shows rock arches, coves, wild beaches and dunes and stunning lagoons. In its own words this book is indeed a ‘magical world of coastal exploration’.  Daniel Start desrivbes each location through his own personal experience of it which is so useful and you almost feel you are there. He gives grid references, postcodes, the length of walk required, the  nearest train station and cycle route.

As well as all these gorgeous places to explore there are sections on coasteering ( a new Craaaazzy sport!) boats and borads, safety and tides and probably  most usefully for all of  us a beach with the kids section where he shares loads of fun, free beach game ideas. These include  boules, scavenger hunts and wet sand olympics. He talks through making an open fire as well as a host of beach arts and crafts ideas.

Covering the length and breadth of Britain even if you aren’t the best or most adventurous of swimmers this book showcases some amazing coastline thats well worth a family visit.

A really lovely book and it would make a fabulous gift or family resource.

Looks like your spellchecker gave up the ghost there!

My favourite thing about being at the coast is how easy the day is. Suncream and snacks and you need nothing to entertain the kids as they will just play on the beach and in the sea without the standard bickering you get most other places.

My favourite thing about being at the beach with the kids… it’s somewhere you can spend lots of time no matter the weather. There’s something to occupy all ages & loads of different kinds of games to play… Exploring, imaginitive play, ball games, frisbee + I get to sit down and watch it all happen!! The worst thing… the long walk home!

My fave thing ohhhhh just everything, from staring intently into rockpools for hours looking for a new type of crab, and maybe a seahorse (yes they are in Cornish rockpools if lucky)
Splashing in the waves, the look of pleasure on the childrens faces as they buty their Dad. Sandy cuddles and kises with them.

    Hi,

My favourite thing about being at the coast is it makes me feel like a child again. I love the fact that it makes me feel young and free.

Thanks for offering this fab giveaway.

    Hi
Can I just say first how much I really enjoy reading this blog? I discovered you last week through the Cool Camping book giveaway and have found your posts to be interesting and fun to read. You’re on my list of blogs I look forward to getting new posts from!

Anyhoo, favourite thing about being at the coast with my child? Hmmm maybe just the potential he sees in it. He is only 2 but he loves looking at the sea and imagining the boats on it, where they’re going to or coming from; he digs in the sand and the hole can be anything he wants it to be; he looks in rock pools and we talk about all the things that could be in there from crabs to sea monsters. For his birthday last year we took him on a boat ride at Whitby that went out onto the water and he loved every minute. When we were on holiday last year our favourite days were spent at the sea with him and now we have another child to explore the coast with all over again.

Sorry, bit of a long answer but it’s a great question!

My favourite thing about being at the seaside with my children is seeing their smiles when they destroy my sandcastles! Priceless.

My fav thing about the beach is playing whatever the weather – we love it be it sunshine or rain – and of course swimming in the sea can not be beaten

We run away to the coast at every opportunity. With 4 kids aged 14, 12, 10 and 4 it is one of the few places where everyone is happy. It’s easy. The teen will lie doing nothing, acting cool with his shades on for about 10 mins before he’s up digging a hole with his littlest brother or making him a sand car. They all love body boarding (as do I!) and we have such fun together in the waves. We go in winter too for breezy coastal walks and rock pooling on the beach and we take a holiday in October in a cottage by the sea (because it is cheaper then and with 6 of us that is VERY important! ) when everyone totally relaxes and breathes in the air.

I took Piran to the beach for the first time last week, he was a little unsure of the sea and the sand but seemed to enjoy himself. I grew up in Cornwall and loved to play and swim in the sea.
