A useful, accesible finance website: SavvyWoman

SavvyWoman is a brilliant website that I have visited many times.

It is for women interested in all aspects of their finances from pensions to tax, from budget calculations to up to date benefits advice. SavvyWoman is the brainchild of Sarah Pennells who you have probably seen on TV she’s a well know personal finance journalist and broadcaster.

What I most like about her work and this website is that it is ACCESIBLE and UNDERSTANDBLE. So often financial information is jargonistic and confusing but Sarah tells it in a way a regular person can understand. Hurray for that!

There is an ask the expert section, a treats and freebies section (with codes for places like Green and Blacks!) There is a jargon busting section, infornation on children, property, retirement, savings, etc.

One of my favourite sections of the site is the the free budgeting tools section with budget calculators and a calculataor to work out when you will have paid off your credit card. Brilliant.

Here is the reason Sarah set up Savvywoman and why it is aimed largelyat women:

It’s not a girls-only club. In fact, there’s plenty of independent content, expert opinion, budgeting tools and tips to help everyone make the most of their cash.

Women tend to:

Retire on less than men
Feel less confident about taking risks with their money than men
Worry more about their debts (and often have debts that charge a higher rate of interest) than men.

You might already have a feeling that you manage your money differently (perhaps you don’t see eye to eye with your husband or partner when it comes to cash).

Or maybe you feel that financial companies don’t really talk to you in a way that’s relevant.

When I look at financial information that’s widely available, much of it seems to be either aimed at men or not written with women in mind. That’s where SavvyWoman is different.

I do urge you to visit if you have any money questions and to have a good look around. It’s a great website.
