Good Luck! If you want to tweet about the competition that would be fab, if you tell me you have done in a speerate comment you will get an extra entry. Please use the hashtag #moneyresolutions
T&C’s: One entry per person please and UK based entrants only. Winner will be picked by Babybudgteing on Tues 31st of January.

I’m useless at saving money myself, I just love shopping! My husband is brilliant at saving so when I get paid every month I’m giving him £200 to look after in his account where I know it will be safe! Easy way to save up £2400 a year! This is one resolution I will definitely be keeping! Thankyou for the awesome competition!
My budgeting resolutions are to Meal Plan and stick to it, don’t buy anything I can realistically make myself – as far as food goes, and save as much money as I can without living in a state of deprivation lol
Our money saving resolutions this year are to cook fresh everyday. We have noticed a £20 a week saving in our shopping bill already!!
We’ve also changed our lightbulbs to energy saving and are switching every appliance off at the plug once we have finished using it! (hubby is slightly more efficient at this than I am and can be a little over zealous at times)!!

My new year resolution was to reduce my monthly outgoings if I could, without really having cutbackon things as we don’t have a lot of luxurys etc, I want to take little legs on holiday this year so I have had to take a careful look at my outgoings and am in the process of changing my mobile taffif to save some money, I have also checked that I am using the cheapest tarrifs for my utilities, phone and broadband, I am buying more items second hand both for little legs and I. I also began to meal plan properly which once you get the hang of it can also be a way of saving money. I am starting to walk more rather than take the bus., and to get my shoes and boots heeled instead of buying new ones.

Well I save a few quid each week and I can see it mounting up which is for my new born in June can’t wait for him being born.Clothes are very dear so I buy mine from EBay in bundles and wash them with a nice powder. In the shops a t.shirt can cost £3 upwards I get a bundle with Tshirts & jeans for £10 which saves us loads as with 4 children clothes and shoes are never ending buying so Ebay helps alot.Tesco I buy the BOGOF always and save a fortune. We don’t have take always we all make our ending time fun and it cost less plus we know what we have put in our food.Gas and electric is costing a lot but we only put it on at night and put the little fire on through the day saves up some cash. When baby is boring family members have clothes and EBay is very cheap and Tesco’s own brand nappies are very cheap so will be using them and their own brand wipes.Tweeting @don1kitkat Take care x great phone would love to win for my other half hies mobile is a brick and old bless.x
Mistake>>> on my post it should say we all make our eating time fun 🙂 pregnancy brain x@don1kitkat
When baby is born not boring arghhhhh can’t type today x
Amazing competition! I would love to win this phone for my OH.
We’ve just got engaged at Christmas so have opened a Wedding Savings Fund. We’ve set up a regular direct debit into there from current account, and hope to make savings on our outgoings by eating out less, shopping more sensibly – looking at best offers and deals in the supermarket. I’ve just advertised our driveway for rent too and really hope that’s taken up – that will be £20 per week!
Oooh nice competition! Thank you!! As you know, I am a crafty so and so… and I cannot resist craft shops and lovely little things to make stuff with. My resolution: is to try and use what I have first (I am such a hoarder) and not buy new things. This will save me money AND help tidy up the house a bit!!!
Already made a 2nd “doll’s bed” (well bunny bed) out of a cardboard box, the pillow, blanket AND pillow stuffing are an old fleece… am please. I think the kids will be too!
Maggy
My New Year’s budgeting resolutions are:
– to make a shopping list before going to the supermarket so I can make sure I can make use of what’s left in the cupboards and not impulse buy everything that looks yummy!
– To set a limit for birthday and christmas gifts and STICK TO IT!!!
I am not doing a ‘big’ shop anymore but instead buying every couple of days based on whats on offer. Also eating much less meat and cooking veggie. Its sooooo much cheaper!
I am very strict with myself and have a few browm padded envolopes, I write on each envolope what it is for, and every time I was spare change I throw it in and write the date and how much, it soon mounts up and then each item is paid for.
I plan to stop buying stuff in the sale just because its reduced when i dont really need it!
i have tweeted as @ashlallan
Stick to a budget when out shopping. Write a list once I have eaten and stick to it. If you go shopping when you are hungry you end up buying more which costs you more. Plus by supermarket own brand alternatives. Much cheaper and taste the same. People tend to buy Heinz beans because of the label – but if you compare the ingredients to Tesco own brand, Tesco brand has less sugar and it costs less.

I can say that I am definitely a spender rather than a saver but this year it has been my New Years resolution to start saving more for that rainy day as they say. To start with I am on a one month rolling mobile phone contract with Tesco Mobile, and although they are cheap I am going to go for the capped tariff so I don’t have any nasty surprises at the end of each month. I am also going to shop around for cheaper broadband & phone this year instead of staying with the same company just because it’s convenient. I have always shopped around for cheaper insurances on comparison websites and will continue to do this as it always saves us a small fortune by shopping around. I have already managed to get a 25% saving on my Sky bill each month for 12 months which is great. I am a big shopper, I see something and I can’t leave it there I have to buy it but I am going to cut down considerably this year on what I buy because I have a wardrobe full of stuff, a pile of shoes and bags and some of the stuff I have hardly worn. I have started grocery shopping with Tesco online and by getting it delivered it saves fuel and wear and tear on my car. I am also hoping to maybe change my car in the near future to a more economical one as mine is quite heavy on the fuel. I am going to make sure I don’t dip into my savings this year aswell as it was so easy for me last year to keep taking money from it. I always say look after the pennies & the pounds will look after themselves x

My budgeting plan is to reduce the amount of food we waste as a family. Since we’ve had a ‘slop’ bucket to recycle food waste, i’ve realised how much money we actually throw away! I’ve already saved about £20 a week by using leftovers to make another meal. Only buying fresh food when we need it and if i know food is going to expire either use it or remember to freeze it.
I have discovered that there are some great takeaways to be had at very reasonable prices,as well as free delivery to your door. This sounds crazy, but think about it,- no cooking or washing up saves on fuel costs, as does not having to collect it.
we have decided that we are walking more, instead of using the car, we are really making a determined effort to switch things off when they are not being used.we have cut down on treats, given up smoking.we are also taking cuttings from plants to improve our garden at very little cost.
we are making a dertimed effort across all fronts to save money & this is just the start
My New Years Resolution is to waste less!
So I’m saving leftovers and recycling them as a packed lunch or dinner the next day (or sometimes freezing them), also I’ve formed a co-operative with a few friends where we buy in bulk (eg BOGOF or at the cash and carry) then swap them between ourselves. I’m selling clothes my children have grown out of on ebay (and buying clothes on ebay too!) , and I’m also using freecycle to get things for free that others don’t need.
Our heating thermostat is set at 16 degrees (from 18 last year) and we wear extra jumpers.
I am making a meal plan every Sunday evening and only buy what we really need for the week and I have started to take drinks out with me instead of buying bottles of coke or juice when I am out and about. It’s amazing how much money I save this way…

I have opened up two saving plans. A main one for when I retire or for emergencies and another for general use ie saving for Christmas. I currently don’t have a phone contract and the money that use to go on that is now split between the two savings. I am saving like mad. Never have before, but I am really dedicated now. I even put the odd spare pund into savings lol
just by cutting down on all the non essential items should save a few pounds if not more
Resist stockpiling – hoarding – because I might need that money for something else!
i really, truly am going to stop having too many takeaways. they are so bad for you as well as being expensive.
am going to follow recipes and try to make healthy cheap meals with good fresh ingredients.. am also going to walk a little more and that will save money in fuel and also help my get a little fitter
Mine were mainly to do with the food shopping- meal planning, making a list and sticking to it, going shopping at 4ish when they tend to do reductions and sticking food in the freezer wherever possible.
Oh my goodness i think iam the only person left on the planet that doesnt own a mobile phone ! Now that must count as budgeting but its not that ive ment not to have one – theres always something else i have to buy first : ( So this would be great … Thank you for giving us the chance : )
Anyway my new years resolution is to stop leaving lights on and things plugged in as i seem to spend a fortune on electricity !
I must admit to always trying to save money in the bank as I always seem to be in and out of work. It’s good to have something to fall back on.
I used to be the type of person that went to the supermarket and would throw everything in my trolley, now I am very careful. Guess what I discovered?! Some budget brands ARE better than the real thing! (well known brands)
My money saving tip is to put by a little but of my change every week – it soon adds up and you don’t miss those small bits of change 🙂 x

Usually im unable to save money, but one of my new years resolutions was to finally give up smoking and cut down on the swearing. My hubbys in on it as well. We have a smoking jar and a swear jar, everytime we swear the kids nag us to stick 10p in it and everytime we want to smoke we must put 10p into the smoking jar. We really havent smoked that much! Im dividing food up and freezing half of it, for example cheese, which just goes insanely fast in my house! I buy a big block for £5 and cut it in half, half is frozen and half is not. Of course the not frozen is gone in 5 mins but cheese crumbles after its defrosted meaning its used for what it should be- spinkling on pasta- cheese on toast etc rather than the huge doorstop slabs my kids and hubby think is ok. Bacon is another thing i freeze as well as making my own meals- shepards pies etc and freezing them, A bag of spuds and pasta goes along way if you want it to 😀
I’m simply trying to turn the heating down but it’s hard because I hate sitting in a room that feels cold – even with a jumper on my feet or head feels cold!
Also looking to buy Tesco’s own brand goods rather than the more expensive varieties. Sometimes doesn’t work – Marmite just has to be Marmite (my kids tell the difference!)

We’re pretty careful when it comes to spending money. However our son always wants toys. Sometimes we have brought them. But now we do say well we’ll put that on your birthday list.
To buy non branded food items instore to save money and also to go through all my direct debits and cancel any non essential items eg. excessively expensive tv packages, magazine subscriptions etc. Worked out I can save a fortune!
my budgeting resolution is not to impulse buy. I have habit of seeing a bargain and then buying it,even when i don’t really need it which means i might struggle layer in the monrh to buy something i actually do need. This year I wait and consider Wether I need the so called bargaib. It’s been working so far! 🙂
My budgeting resolution is to plan our meals. We waste so much food at the moment and every week I find something lurking at the back of the fridge that needs to go to the bin. (A soggy bag of salad, some green powdery clementines or a red tinged pack of salmon fillets) Don’t tell the husband – I have to hide them at the bottom of the bin so I have decided this year that I must plan our meals better and check what is in the fridge regularly to ensure we use everything up. And in doing so I’m sure my weekly supermarket shop will be much less allowing me to buy a few treats for the children.

We have lots of outgoings at the moment and have just had work done on the house. I am not very good at keeping track of all the different outgoings, from bills to loans to council tax.
I need to be better at budgeting and keeping track of my money.
Buying more supermarket “own label” food brands; make sure I stick to my shopping list (no impulse buys); being prepared to switch energy/phone supplier if there are better deals available; haggling (possibly… if I can muster up the courage/get over the embarrassment…).
I have set a resolution to sve money by down grading on our food, I am amazed at how cheap some of the value ranges are and also how good they are. My cupboards now have a lot of stuff that all looks the same but my bankbalance is a lot healthier.
@tiredmummyoftwo
My purse is empty, wages spent, need money quick to pay the rent.
I’ve worked so hard, done the graft, now time to kill my overdraft
so Computing will be hobby, saving my goal, if i win this phone i’ll have total control.
i will buy only budget buys, reduced fast food.
my bank manager will be in a better mood :))))
I’m cutting down on overpriced meals out and not making impulse purchases. I’ll sleep on a prospective purchase and see if I still need it a few days later.
We have decided we are spending too much money petrol, gas and electric, so we are doing simple things like only using the tumble dryer if necessary, the first hint of a clear day and the washing is hung out. We are also cutting down on using the car, walking a lot more which is great for our health aswell as our pockets.
Not leaving anything on stand-by seems like such a small thing but it still saves pennies.

Our moneysaving resolution is to start paying some extra of the mortgage, any money left at the end of the month we will put towards extra payment.
I also safe money by buying reduced / nearly out of day food I always finde the food fine as long as you use it the same day.
i dont buy baby food for my son, whenever i make dinner i keep a bit to the side, puree or mush it uo and then divide it into pots and freeze it. saves me a fortune
also any spare changei have i put into my sons money box and every month i take hiim to the supermarket and buy his treats with it, its amazing how change quickly adds up
My New Year’s budgeting resolution is:

When I shop I load up on 3 for 2 offers on things I use regularly. I do the same with food and freeze whatever I don’t need. I buy vegetables in bulk and then cut them up and freeze them. My new years resolution is to do more of the same.
To not buy processed food anymore, buying fresh ingredients I found I can make double/triple portion making it myself yes it takes a bit of time but saves tons on monthly shop
I plan to save money by doing my shopping online and using that cool InvisibleHand gadget to make sure I never overpay on goods.
We hope to eeek out meals a bit more too.

I shop around – eg by buying milk at Iceland instead of the coop, I save 60p on each 4pt bottle, that’s nearly £4 a week with the way my family goes through milk. Means a slightly longer walk when I go shopping, but the exercise is good for me, right?
tweeted as @liveotherwise
To not get as many bloomin taxis. Works in two ways- firstly I stop spending money on cabs, and secondly as I get exercise, thus saving money on pointless exercise DVDs which I pay £15 for and use once for half an hour. Win win!
we went to the local tourist office to see what is on our doorstep for the family to do, so much stuff that is well priced or free and because we see it every day we never go…but there is a reason people come to our towns and cities from all over the world for their holidays…we have great stuff to offer…so we save time and money on travel, have great days out and my family learn about their own surroundings and heritage…brilliant
I’m trying to use coupons and vouchers for as much shopping as I can
l’m buying macarel instead of salmon, just as healthy but alot cheaper and also buying cheaper cuts of white fish instead of expensive cod. I’m a vegetarian so meat does’nt enter the equation.
cutting back on cakes and chocolates
Make do and mending, buying 2nd hand if poss, growing our own and shopping around several supermarkets to get best prices. Also streamlining the amount of cleaning products I buy and using cheaper natural alternatives where I can. Just tried ‘soap nuts’ in laundry – amazing and about 2p per wash!
l always check out the price reduced stock at the supermarket
I plan to put money a side each month from giving up smoking and use everything I save to treat the kids at Christmas!
Not using a credit card at all ever again!!
More meal plans so I spend less each week at the supermarket!

I hardly ever buy books any more I always get them from my local library, I reserve them and receive an email when they are ready for collection. I also stop myself from ending up in WH Smiths and spending a small fortune on magazines as, I’ve found out my library has a good choice of magazines so I pop in during my lunch break for a read. Also no temptation anymore to call in and get a coffee from Costa when I go to the newsagents!

Not only will I save money by not buying expensive meat and processed foods, I’ll be so much healthier. A b it of a no-brainer really.
Unfortunateley i cant save money, because i dont have any money :(( First i need to find job 🙁
i plan to save money by not ordering things online anymore. Instead i will just enter competitions and hope for the best
I plan my week’s meals and buy exactly what we need. No more cooking several meals each night. We all eat the same meals, which is working out massively cheaper
I am already quite money savvy, but this year I have decided to make a conscious effort to plan a food shop before I go. Planning exactly what we need, researching online where the best offers overall for it are, checking for any vouchers and remembering to use loyalty card and cashback credit card and paying off immediately after. I hope this will stop me making so many impulse purchases in the supermarket. And when I see a product we use all the time on a fab discount I intend to buy in bulk then, rather than come back a fortnight later and paying twice as much! Fingers crossed x

I am budgetting by a few methods this year, firstly I am making all meals from scratch using fresh ingredients rather than buying frozen (or fresh) ready meals, not only has it made a difference at the checkout but I also save from buying lunches as I have enough food over each evening and the waist line is different too! I also now park at a free area in town instead of driving right to work and save myself £20 a week!
I am trying to save money by not buying things that i really don’t need and shopping around for deals on food.
To carefully plan the weeks meals and take a list and stick to it
i plan and have dropped a brand in my shopping ive saved quite a bit to
We’ll be entertaining more at home, rather than going out. Also, I’ve started to save £1 and £2 coins in a large Whisky bottle, which will be going towards our summer holiday! It’s surprising how quickly it mounts up …
Have an allotment so trying to grow all veg and a lot of fruit; buying in bulk then batch cooking so have home-made ready meals. Aiming to just do one big shop a month then just buy milk as needed.
I go straight to the discount meat shelf and plan my meals around what I find
Have tweeted the competition @glennhutton
Budgeting ideas in our new years resolutions include making meal plans and only buying what we need for the week, taking pack lunches and our own coffee to work, walking when possible instead of taking the car,i got a steam cleaner which cost a lot at the time but will save me buying cleaning products as you dont need them, also recycling more around the home and my friends and myself have set up a clothes party every few months we swap or pass on old out grown clothes.
I plan to cut down on non essential items and save more money in my coppers bank.
Going to stop buying take away foods and cut back on ready meals, then cook more from scratch. ;0)
I’d love to win!!

My money resolution has been to keep a spreadsheet of all our spending to keep track of every penny, plus checking we’re getting the best deal for insurance, energy etc. So far its working well!
Mine is to go to the shops less often – I am trying not to enter shops either by foot or online. Of course need to buy food but that is all. Trying to swop, borrow clothes etc.
I’m making extra mortgage payments to get rid of that huge debt as money in savings accounts are earning me nothing!

I’ve started making a pack lunch each day instead of being seduced by the sandwich van when it comes round – it was never just a sandwich, but a cake as well! This adds up over the month!
I’m cutting back on eating out and making home cooked healthier foods for the family.
Also I’m trying my luck at competitons to try to supplement my income and get us things we can’t afford any more. Christmas shopping hopefully early!!
We are cutting down this year by,using our bus pass as much as we can.when we have a cup of tea in tesco,s we share a pot, always carry my own nibbles in my bag,so if u get pekish,u don’t buy anything.washing only with cold fill,
Buy most of my clothes in a car boot, just moved house,so on the lookout for bargains.had loads from tesco,s clearance website.e.g t.v bedsides light shades bedding.saved a packet, still on the lookout for more.
As we are just retired have lots of time to ,shop sensibly, lots of own brand in tesco,s are really good value, trial and error.
Were going to the local college, hairdressing school.to have our hair done,at a very cheap price.
When I cook make an extra portion for the freezer.easy to do.
Best thing I do to save money when shopping is do it on my own!!!
I am going to make my lunch every day instead of eating out…
Drink more water and loose weight
More recycling and less waste will save a packet towards the bills I’ve faced
My plan to save money this year is to save money on the food/weekly shop (like a lot of other people commenting) by shopping in more than one supermarket/shop such as Lidl and Aldi. I am also going to revisit my outgoings and see if I can reduce the cost of any of these and check to see if they are still required or can be cancelled.
great giveaway,twitted @avelte2000
to try and save more i will stick to online shopping at tesco because if i come at you store i am out of control…the phone would be great to win
Work-life balance
Treat money saving as a profitable hobby by planning & researching but make it fun by totting up the savings to keep the motivation going. Shopping late in the day means all the perishables are reduced to clear & still freeze easily. Buy seasonable products at the best price & so fresh. Collect & use vouchers. Have a budget & do not exceed it. Menu plan & bulk cook. Use a pressure cooker to save fuel & preserve vitamins. If oil heating or a septic tank combine with neighbours & achieve a discounted price. If you have solar remember to use power during the brightness of the day when it is free, my bills have dropped following this.
I am trying to save money by making batch food and freezing it 🙂 seems to be working so far
I’ve decided to combine budgeting with learning a new skill – cooking and baking as much as I can from scratch and creating a meal planner to ensure nothing goes to waste. It’s amazing how much I’ve saved and I am eating better quality meals and really enjoying my time in the kitchen!
I shall wear the clothes I have rather than buying new for the sake of it.
I’m drawing a limited amount of money out of the bank each week for grocery shopping and keeping it in a separate purse. I’m only allowing myself to spend what is in there so it will (hopefully) stop me buying extras we don’t need.
I have tweeted @hoogervaaner
has to be to give up somking.
i am saving money for the new year by quit smoking, searching for bargains and just not buying things when i see them and waiting to see if i really in need of the item, but could do with a new phone 🙂
Giving up magazine and coffee
To generate some cash i plan to have a good clearout of all the things i do not need anymore in my house, loft, shed, garage. And sell them on ebay and to do a few carboot sales. GOODLUCK ALL IN 2012!!!! Whatever you all deside to do to save and generate more cash!!!
To use price comparison sites for all insurance products
I am trying to think before i buy ,do i really need this, is there a cheaper alternative or can i manage without this.I try to think about my purchases before i buy, make a list before i go shopping,it’s working i’ve had no impulse buying in the sales.
to only buy what i need and not what i want and never shop when im hungary
i take sandwiches to work now instead of paying over three pound for overpriced deli ones
Been starting to buy some things in shops like Quality Save and Home Bargains. you get bigger packs of chocolate bars so it’s more economical and alcohol is a good price!
I’m saving £5 a week towards christmas and also putting all my £2 and 20p coins into a savings tin that I can’t dip into !
I have stopped buying flowers and am using foliage from the garden to brighten up the house.
I am saving up for a car because mine is old and ricketty, so I have opened up a savings account, and clearing out anything that doesn’t fit, I don’t use or could go to another home and selling it online or at a car boot sale. I’m also taking packed lunches to work rather than buying food and saving up all my loose change in a jar and adding this to my fund
Live within your means
I stock up on my favourite items when on BOGOF deals
Cutting down on the number of ‘nights out’…………and increasing the number of ‘nights in’ curled up with a book brought from a charity shop.
We are determined to have a ‘No shopping’ week at least once a month this year.
Too often we ignore the extra tins and hidden frozen items of food we have in our kitchens, so now we are making the most of these and also make sure we don’t waste any food from the fridge as well. Hopefully it will save us money, and stop us from wasting food. OH, and encourage us to be more imaginative with what we cook as well!
I’m gonna stop buying so many takeaways and start making my own dinners.

I have already started my budgeting – I only allow myself to use the car on 2 occasions per week. 1. For shopping. 2. Dog training when I also call into the shops for anything I have forgotten. The rest of the time I walk or use my trusty bus pass!
Comping for items that would make excellent presents for birthdays etc.
As I live alone – I only use the washing machine once a week (1 week for whites the other for coloureds).
I’m in the process of replacing everything electrical with triple A rated new products (fridge, washing machine, tv, kettle, induction hob etc) & (hopefully) solar panels – an initial outlay but with prices rising yearly I’m sure it will prove a good decision in the long term.
I have asked my son to bring all the empty drink cans at his part time job home and I am recycling them for points on my Tesco card and doing my bit for the enviroment as well
I have saved money by making more home cooked meals big batches that I can freeze its amazing how many meals you can get out of one chicken!
I plan meals in advance , only buy groceries that I need for the week. Also using up items in cupboards and freezer first
Walking to Tesco – so I cant buy too much as I cant lug it home and have learnt a number of new recipes for using left overs. Working well except now need a smaller size of jeans – bang goes my savings!!
I intend to buy more online..thereby saving on petrol and time. I can still take advantage of all the offers and no hassle. We are also watching our water consumption as we are on a meter and in the South West which is the highest charged in the country. Other than that if we can’t afford it we don’t buy it.
If I don’t need it I don’t buy it! Buying shop brands saves a few pennies!
Saving money for me this year means car-sharing with my wife, for as long as she can put up with me!
To save money we are planning our meals each week and using a shopping list to only buy what we need. We have swapped from the big 4 supermarkets to Aldi and Lidl. Any loose change each day gets put in a sealed pot until the end of the year too.

Budget in advance and stick to your plan
Tick off those savings, Good Luck, YOU CAN!
I really need to cut back after all my Christmas spending so I am going to try cutting out all the vouchers in the local press and use them at my local supermarket…..O how the people behind me in the queue are going to love me!
To use all the food that’s been stashed at the back of the cupboards and freezer, instead of buying fresh every week!
My New Years Resolution is to try and keep fit by walking and so far I have done well by walking each day just for 20 minutes,It doesnt take me long and I am out in the open air 🙂 makes me happy and proud knowing I have walked.
I will stock up on baby offers on nappies, milk and wipes during special promotions. The savings really do add up!
Only get money out of the bank as needed it means more trips to the cash point but stops impulse buys as usually don`t have cash to buy immediately.
get my grocery shopping online – i seem to spend less this way
have reduced our TV package, are using cheap discount stores for kitchen paper, loo rolls. Buying value brand groceries, keeping a record of all purchases. Cutting back on birthday and christmas presents. using price comparison and cashback sites wherever possible.
My New Years resolution is to use up all the toiletries and smellies that were given to us as Xmas gifts before buying new ones.
Every year we get given loads and they just sit in the cupboard or on a shelf gathering dust, well not anymore. I did this last year and had a good couple of months before I had to buy any shower gel/ bubble bath.
I also shop around in the Xmas sales for leftover gift sets because sometimes they can work out cheaper than buying the individual items, the lynx gift sets were a bargain this year, 50p for deodorant and shower gel!!
Our mortgage has been reduced by £230 a month so we’ve set up a SO for half of that into our ISA to try & save.
Use up contents of freezer. Also make more room in the garden to grow more veg…
By hopefully winning this competition I will save money on not having to buy this gorgeous phone, and with a tesco sim I’ll save even more – every little helps 😉
We are not drinking in the week so thats saving money. also we are writing a list of things we need with 7 meals planned and sticking to the list. also have down graded the items from branded to stores own items.
I will make a more conscious effort to check the prices of big things I need to buy on price comparison websites and shop wherever I will save the most money.
I will also make sure that, where possible, I buy own brand labels as there is no difference in taste. We will save money this way and can save the extra money for other things!
Also, tweeted as @Sandysferguson
ill be using ebay to get rid of any unwanted items, making sure i check for vouchers before each shop and only buying stuff i really need at the local shop rather than the supermarket where ill spend more 🙂
I’m going to stock up on things when they are on offer in the supermarket. I have already bought my years supply of shampoo and conditioner from Tesco – worked out to just over 60p a bottle! : )))
tweeted @felixthemog
Shopping daily and only for what I need, rather than doing one big shopping trip and throwing away unused food.
Having spent an absolute fortune on clothes for child 1 and then seeing clothes for pennies at car boot all summer we will buy from boot sales for child 2 (due in August)
Buy whatever is on offer and plan your meals around them 🙂
I’m ordering online and having it delivered, it’s actually cheaper than driving to the supermarket and back, it’s quicker, and I avoid all those impule buys that pad out my weekly shopping bill!
Collecting vouchers, joining sites that give advice on offers, buying bulk items and splitting cost with my family.
Simply meal planning and only shopping for what we need for those meals. Shopping without a plan is a real no no 😀
Hi, in order to save money I’m going to the supermarket less and also eating out less.
Hi, I also tweeted and RT @rahelaa
I’ve decided to cut meat out of my diet completely.
Not only for the health benefits, but it has already dramtically reduced my shopping bill.
To fit in with the New Years resolution to continue healthy eating and maintaining a good weight, my shopping resolution is to shop regularly for fresh fruit and veg, but only to buy what I need and stick to the list. By never buying snack food or junk food it can save alot of temptation and money! I just have fruit and raisins for snacks if I get hungry, you can train yourself out of the junk food habit! I shop around and buy fruit that is in season or on offer, so fairly flexible in my approach, and I get things from different supermarkets depending on the price and quality. I also pick up sell by produce whenever I can. I never waste anything! I occasionally organise a big shop delivery if there is a money off voucher to make it worth my while, and that is when I stock up on cupboard items that are on offer. I could go on but I’m afraid I’d have to wake you up first! 😉
I plan to save money by planning meals ahead of shopping and taking advantage of more special offers
Breaking my ankle within the first week of january was a sure fire way of not spending much as i cant get me and my daughter anywhere 🙁
But i am constantly using the martin lewis way of thinking and his amazing money savinf expert website to get tips from other home runners on how to cut back and make my money go the furthest.
I shall therefore be
Batch cooking so save electric and use ingredients more than once at the same time to result in using them by their sell by date
Constantly turning lights and switches off to keep cost down and my carbon footprint,
Get my seeds planted and greenhouse ready to grow some fruit and veg and flowers, always more satisfaction when you grow your own.
Walk (when i can) rather than drive everywhere, good for pollution, money saving and health
Use vouchers, do online shopping and make sure im keeping an eye out for deals
Reduce waste, plan meals, make shopping list, reduce fuel bills by turning the thermostat down and never leave anything on standby
Sharing clothes with friends and family to crea\te new looks
Make sure I always turn leftovers into meals for eating now and for preserving in the freezer. Nothing gets wasted!
We are switching our heating from timed to manual. This will save an hour of heat in the morning and probably two at night. 3 hours minimum per day = 21 hours per week and should save quite a bit. It was a bit warm getting up so now will also get use out of the dressing gowns we got for Christmas too! :p
I DO MY SHOPPING AND THEN REMOVE 2 ITEMS I CAN DO WITH OUT BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE CHECKOUT
Cutting out the takeaways, making larger meals to freeze and online shopping, even though you pay for delivery it really helps to avoid buying everything on offer, I’m terrible for spending an extra £5 on bits and bobs when all I wanted was milk LOL
Taking my own lunch to work, not going to the pub (as often) during lunch hour, wearing more clothes instead of putting the heating on, eating less, alienating all my friends so I never have to spend money going out…
None of it’s working so far.
I’ve changed all my utility suppliers and saved a whopping £280
I vowed not to be tempted by special offers or buy one get one free’s that just clutter my cupboards and so far its working!
Trying to use up left overs and not let food get passed its sell by date
Well, I started doing car boot sales late last year, so I’m starting this year with budgetting, money-making and saving in mind.
I kept last years Christmas cards to make postcards to enter competitions to win presents for birthdays throughout the year, I’ve also held some back to make this year’s christmas cards.
I’m trying to use as many shopping vouchers and discount codes as possible when buying household items to keep expenses down to a minimum. I also decided that I wouldn’t buy myself new things, unless I won the items, won vouchers to pay for them, or made the extra money somehow.
I cleared out my wardrobe today, to gift some clothes to my mother in law to help her our whilst she’s so skint, and saved some in the garage for when I like them (when they’re back in fashion) again, and some ready to sell to make some cash.
I decided this year I would clear all my debts, so our life could be stress free from money worries, so I’m hoping that my money making, saving ideas work for us.
My resolution is all about food – I am determined to be organised and plan the family meals for the week rather than get home tired and order a takeaway. This will not only save money by following a shopping list every week but also be good news for our waistlines!
I’m actually going to go to the supermarket more. Walking there and back will keep me fit for free and I’ll have more opportunities to take advantage of any discounted produce to cook that evening or stick in the freezer.
We have switched to buying some food at Lidl and sticking to set weekly budget as well as using up small change for small purchases instead of breaking into a note.
I am following you and have retweeted @TrishO1
DEFINITELY CUTTING OUT 50% OF SNACKS : CRISPS COKE AND WHATHAVEYOUS! AMAZING THE AMOUNT OF DAILY CASH THAT GOES OUT OF THE WINDOW FOR”JUST ONLYS” ALONG WITH THE HEALTH.
I will be cutting down on food wastage by planning meals/grocery needs properly. Use comparison site and cashback site more often.
I have tweeted the post @muslimahi
Cut up the credit cards and spend only what i have!!
TWITTED TOO
Today, in fact, I saved a dollar eight from being sad –
I used it for my baby, and I know that made him glad.
Last week, I saw some quarters in a fountain at the mall…
So I saved them all from drowning (and they bought a nappy or two)
My allowance funds get lonely, but I save them if I spend ‘em,
And I get them into registers where Mothercare befriends ‘em.
I know a lot of other tricks, but I don’t want to bore you…
My New Years Resoultion is to save them all for you!
To use all the food that’s been stashed at the back of the cupboards and freezer, instead of buying fresh every week!
I’m making my own takeaways rather than buying them. Tastier, healthier, and so much cheaper
we are growing our own fruit and veg. making our own ice lollies-spring water and crushed fruit! finally, i am looking for new employment where i have to use up lots of energy each day so i can save on gym membership fees.
Cashback websites and vouchers.
I’m moving on to tesco own brands As I’ve not noticed a difference in quality, & going with my neighbor saves us petrol, I always look for the buy 1 get 1 free offers & my neighbour & I get the BOGOF & half the price. I ALWAYS write a list & stick to it allowing £5 for the bogof deals & anyother really good offers. I ALWAYS claim my tesco points as getting a voucher for free shopping is wonderful 🙂 xx
Buying more ‘meal good food’ and less food for snacking. When making dishes like spag bol or chilli I’m going to freeze any left over in the pan and use for another day.
Look out for offers
Only buy what you need not what you want
Going to shop at ASDA its cheaper
To grow veg in the garden.
We have set a weekly saving goal that must be met before spending on any extras, also intend to visit the supermarket or shops less, trying to stick to a shopping day and eating from the cupboards as stocks get low, should end up with some unusual food combinations )))
A baked bean and tangerine jelly trifle anyone?
We will be having less takeaways – healthier and cheaper!

I’m going to make sure I make my lunch for work at home rather than buying it everday
ive been writing menus for the week, using stuff i already have in the cupboards, then i write a shopping list for the rest of things i need ,its been saving me loads of money and if u stick to your list and do it online you save even more!!!
We had a trial run last year of growing our own vegetables on a small scale, it was a huge success, so this years aim is to extend the plot and be self sufficient with vegetables, so much cheaper and tastier than shop bought vegetables
tweeted @itsmeeexxx
– To get a tastecard, and get 50% off meals
– Use newspaper, instead of buying those biodegradable bags for food rubbish.
– Auction off items, which are not used occasionally (unnecessary clutter).
– Use a wireless plug switch, to save money on electricity.
– Wear socks and jumpers and layers, instead of switching on the gas fire.
-Have a shower, instead of a bath.
-Get an Oyster card.
-Free cinema trips, via advanced screenings
This year I will enter competitions, no holidays abroad, grow own fruit & veg, no restaurants, shop carefully comparing prices on Tesco website.
I am going to make all my friends gifts for birthdays and xmas!
Only do one shop a week, make a meal plan for the week ahead and a shopping list for ingredients needed then stick to the list. Shop around the supermarkets for the best prices.Always check out cashback sites for good deals on switching insurance providers etc, been doing this for years and saved loads.
use everything up, if stuck for ideas google recipes
write out a shopping list and stick to it to save money and avoid food waste 🙂

i’m going to have a proper go at growing my own veg on my allotment
to continue raise all the money i need to visit africa with the world challange team to help rebuild homes and communites!
I started a Post Office Christmas Savings club. Each week I put on it what we have spare but the good thing is its locked until november so the childrens christmas is sorted and we cant touch it whatever we need or however tempted we are through the year.
I’m cycling my ass off! Literally! Saving £100 per month in petrol too!
I am doing a lot to save money this year – I have already rang companies to get a better deal on things like Broadband and just check the best rates!
I also go to supermarkets late on in the evening, just before they close to get the best deals on food that is on its’ sell by date. I can buy them cheap and put them straight into the freezer! It has saved me a lot of money.
Also I have been doing more walking at weekends when I don’t really need to use the car, that saves me petrol and helps me to become a bit more fitter!
USING ALL MONEY OFF VOUCHERS, NET/PAPER/STORE, BUYING INGREDIANTS, AND MAKING SOME FOOD MYSELF, ON A POSITIVE NOTE, TESCO/HARLOW, HAVE A LOT OF BETTER PRICES, THAN THEY HAD OVER FESTIVE PERIOD
I recently got some ‘cookie jars’ and wrote on each things like ‘Rent’, ‘Food’, ‘Holiday’, ‘Petrol’, ‘Cloths’, ‘Electric Bill’, ‘Gas Bill’ …..
Each week, I draw out that weeks money from the Cash Machine and divide it up into the Cookie Jars .. I start by putting 1 weeks Rent into the Rent Jar, 1 weeks food cost into the Food Jar, 1 weeks Electric Bill etc .. and so on.
This is absolutely excellent as I can track down my overall spending, save a lot more money, not overspend in supermarkets and be in totally control of it all.
Wow, this is a good prize, my eyes nearly popped out.
I will continue been thrifty with my spending this year the same as last, I’m always thinking ahead when spending to save money, buying in bulk when things are on offer or reduced, things on sale for birthdays/christmas etc. Compare prices online, use vouchers for days out etc.
My Money New Year’s resolutions are –
1. Make a meal plan
2. Stick to a food shopping list – don’t get swayed into buying items I don’t need/want
3. Cut out buying tea/coffee when I’m out
4. Don’t use the tumble dryer unless absolutely necessary
Tha’s a start!

I’ve been a bit of a rebel and used the spare room to store my bits and bobs . I’ve been thinking that I hardly go in there anymore so I musn’t really need anything that’s in there … So I’m going to learn how to use Ebay and start my saving up for Christmas nice and early !
x
I have Tweeted about this competition ~ Thanks !

Going to be burning off energy instead of petrol by cycling!
Keeping all my receipts so i can track exactly what i am spending
To grow food in my allotment and at home as well.
Only buy what we need ,and not all the extres, and look for cheaper products on the sheif’s,and buy one get one free!
I’m buying things second hand and selling things that we no longer use want or need.
I’m going to be more organised with meal planning. By shopping online for groceries and working out in advance what we’ll be eating each night, I’ll be able to save money in two ways : less wasted food each week and more chance to take advantage of special offers in the online store.
Stop buying bottled water
I am using coupons and buying reduced produce and offers.
buy econonmy, not top notch
Take a drink from home in an old water bottle instead of buying bottled water each day
Always use just a little bit less washing gel and fabric conditioner to get the most out of the bottles, every little helps!
We will not be going on holiday this year and will certainly have less days out using the car so hopefully this will save quite a bit,
I am going to have a month of eating from the freezer – will use the frozen veg and then buy fresh but there are lots of bits of meat and indescribable items in Tupperware with no labels because I knew what they were when I put them in and they were only going in for a few days/week!
So we might have some weird meals but I will refill the freezer afterwards with lots of Tescos special BOGOFs and special offers
To help me save money this year, I,ve decided not to feed the kids. In fact, after much thought, I might save on groceries by eating the children!
I am only going t buy what I need, wanting something is not a good excuse for me to get it any more, wasted far too much money like that lol.
My husband’s leaving. That’ll save me £20 on the Sky sports subscription!
Not waste food. Every weekend go through the fridge and cupboards and use up end of life foodstuff. Make inventive meals – can usually get about 3 meals out of stuff I would normally chuck.
Walk more to reduce petrol costs!
I am going to organise my freezer properly by dating and labelling everything to make sure everything is used in the best way.
meal plans! I’m going to plan each week in advance to help budget for my shopping
i will not eat junk foods..whatever will be made at home only that will i eat and only two times a day will be my eating span … only lunch and dinner…………..!!!!!!! no luxuries and only saving money
Use up all my Christmas toiletry gifts before spending any of my own money on toiletries.
Make a weekly meal planner and stick to it, to avoid wasted food and expensive trips to the takeaway.
eBay the clothes in my wardrobe that I never wear.
Go to the bingo on a Thursday when it’s free!
I am going to stock up on BOGOFs or any other offers on fresh meat etc then make lots of fresh meals, spaghetti bolognese, stews, home made soups and then freeze for use at a later date.
Cooking from scratch (including baking!) and making meals with leftovers ….. whether they like it or not ; )
We have started a £2 jar this year. We decided you don’t really miss a £2 coin from your purse/wallet, but its suprising how quickly it mounts up in the jar. Before we started we decided on a wish that we would use the money on, wrote it down and popped it into the jar, so its gives us something to aim for and focus on. 🙂
leave your phone behind one day a week to cut down the bill.
Plan and buy and stock up when items are discounted. Over time, should mean quite a saving as long as we do not stock up too much!
I have also tweeted about the giveaway using the required hashtag. @Chicken_1983 🙂
Im not going to go shopping as often and stop impulse buying
I’ve been saving quite a bit on food recently buying basic brands & adding flavours, spices etc if needed, refilling packed lunch juice bottles & having a planned weekly menu for a change.x
No more chocs, cake, sweets or biscuits untill Easter I should save a fortune and lose a bit of Weight at the same time
Shared on Facebook & tweeted @ suej1601
As much as my other half hates it, but I’m going to be making better use of vouchers and printing them out and getting the discounts off the shopping bills. He thinks im a bit mad anyway, but it will save a few pennies 🙂
Put the new Christmas slow cooker to good use and start cooking up all those left over fridge bits and bobs at the end of the week into a big stew or soup 🙂
I am asking myself if i really need this before i buy things. Its surprising how often the answer is no
I will be planning my meals and making a list of what to buy BEFORE I head to the supermarket….oh and making sure I have eaten before i go shopping too just to make sure I don’t make any impulse purchases because of my hungry tummy!
My Budgeting plans are:
-Save any left over food from the night before and have it for my lunch!
– I also use money saving vouchers and make sure i use all my clubcard points wisely!
– i’m also going to sell some items which i no longer need in order to buy items which i do need!
– i’m going to start with a hobby in order to make some money i.e cardmaking etc!
Grow more fresh fruit – soft fruit is pretty easy to grow and fresh raspberries are delicious and would cost a fortune in the quantities I like.
More foraging, started last year collecting wild blackberries and bilberries – delicious and free – will look for more goodies this year.
Started making my own cheap natural cleaning products – will do more of this.
Getting better at batch cooking and freezing meals for later, saves times as well as money, will do more of this.
Look out for more special offers and coupons.
Taking a leaf out of Paul McCartney’s book and having more meat free days. Despite always making (and sticking to) a menu plan, our food bills are still too high.
Most of what we eat is meat based – especially turkey and chicken, so trying to change that this year – and not just by swapping meat for Quorn either – proper vegetable based meals should save a few pennies, especially by easting what’s in season.
I’m going to start meal planning so that I will hopefully reduce the amount of food we waste. I will also be using up all the food I already have here instead of buying things that I already have.
I will use my pressure cooker more, as it saves both time & money.
I am going to walk more and drive less, obvious i know but after living in the sticks for so long, you have to remind yourself the shop is close enough to walk when you move somewhere more populated
My plan is to firstly enter more competitions like this. You never know! I’m going to give the Tesco online grocery shopping a go, I simply can’t stick to the shopping list when heading around the supermarket I always seem to end up with a lot more than I had planned on buying. And lastly no more takeaways – more home cooking/baking is the way forward for me.
I’ve got lots this year so here goes:
1. New savings account opened and DD set up. Am also putting any money in that I have left at the end of the month, even if it’s only £5.
2. Turning lights off in the house as it usually looks like the illuminations.
3. 1p and 2p pieces going into a jar to save and use on the Christmas shop along with my Tesco club card vouchers.
4. Elec and gas supplier changed, saving £10 a month so far also have had to have a new boiler fitted but that should save us another £10 PCM.
5. No more magazines, the money I’ve saved will go in my savings account and I’ve joined a library.
6. Budget set for weekly shop and so far so good, lots of things we buy get thrown away but not this year.
Home made lunches, going vegetarian and buying a flash and making my own coffee.
I have just got a pay rise so the little extra cash i’m getting i’m putting in my isa to help us save for when we have a baby!
Whatever loose change is in my purse at the end of each day is going into a saving pot. It might only be a pound one day then another day it might be six pounds, whatever coins are left at the end of the day.
I am hoping that it will be a more painless way to save some money for a family treat later in the year, maybe even towards a holiday!
I simply have created a spreadsheet (and have synced it with my iphone!)
every time I spend it list it down I HAVE to put it on, even if it’s just 40p on a chocolate bar.
Writing it down makes me think twice!
i am gonna write a list before i go to the supermarket and stick to it, or even order online so i cant be tempted by the sweet treats in the aisles
Tweeted @finleypoppet
I basically swapped my own money and have started using monopoly money and my own set of made up vouchers.
My new years resolution to save money is to change all of the pin numbers of my cards and not tell my wife!
I am going to carry on as I did last year as I made various changes then and they saved me money, things like not leaving lights on unnecessarily, not leaving items on stand by, only buying the food we need so NO wasted out of date meals. I might also cut out the biccies which saves money and calories.
Use left over vegatables to make soup for my lunch.
walk more to save petrol
This year to save money I WILL:
-Not go shopping when I’m hungry, as always end up spending twice as much!
– Take packed lunches (not go to the shop every lunch time and buy crisps and chocolate) May loose a few pounds in weight too!
-Stop spending money on things that I really don’t need, eg the latest mascara, new magazine out, and instead put half the money in a jar, then count at the end of the month to prove how much money I waste that I could save!
This year im going to be super organised. With another child on the way i have decided to do some serious budgeting. First of all i am planning a week in advance what we are having for dinner everyday for 7 days, i am then only buying the food we need. Therefore there is no need to stock up on things that are not going to get eaten within the next week. Secondly im saving all our change and putting it into a pot , then counting it at the end of the month.
Bulk buy groceries to get the best value and make my money go further.
To save money I’ll compare all prices carefully before buying anything!
Make a shopping list and stick to it
I’m saving by planning my weekly meals and only buying those ingredients from the supermarket. This saves waste and money 🙂
I am going to:-
1. Walk instead of using public transport or car
2. Not buy clothes unless theres a special occaision to attend
3. Wear more clothes to keep the heating bills down
4. Eat less chocolate, sweets & snacks
5. Buy fresh veg instead of frozen or prepacked and prepaired veg
6. Stay in more “what the eyes don’t see the heart doesn’t grieve”
7. Think ahead-get pressies in the sales
8. Save on having my hair done and grow it long
I have tweeted as @BoostieBoo 🙂
I am planning to only buy what we need with regards to the grocery shop, I will be freezing extra food and will minimise and eliminate wastage.
Instead of wasting money on buying things I don’t need I’m going to overpay the mortgage each month to save on interest charges.
To cook more from home and to eat out less!!!!!
I’m roping everybody into creating some window boxes to grow some yummy cheap veg!
to shop around for things liek car insurace, before i have just renewed it with teh same company
to only buy what i need at hte supermarket, i always keep chucking things in that i really dotn need!
Finish up all the food we bought for Christmas. Nearly half way with the turkey now.
1. Sell things – starting with all the old toys that were replaced with new ones at Xmas and are currently bursting out of the toy box.
2. Don’t spend any money on entertainment – all month we have taken the kids out at the weekend to free places only and taken packed lunches.
3. Use up spare food before buying any more – onion, sausage, poppadom, bacon, eggs, yoghurt, clementine, Christmas cake stew anyone?
I will give up my morning lattes.
Make sure you dont go shopping when your hungry, you could quite easily add another £25-£30 worth of shopping if you do.
I am going to buy discounted food its amazing how much you can save buying reduced bread and putting it in the freezer.
Plan my meals each week and no buying any extras
Take all the kids old clothes and toys they no longer play to a car boot sale. we did 2 last year and it was really good how much we made
For a day out for the kids forget the theme parks and have a nice day at the park, take a foot ball, tennis set and a homemade picnic. Saves a fortune and the kids still get a nice day out.
When we have Sunday lunch been cooking extra vegetables and potatoes and using for next day to make bubble & squeak. Also when had bread few days instead throwing old bread out now using for desserts such as bread & butter pudding and jam fritters.
Ensuring when shopping only using Tesco to get my club card points instead of alternating my shopping provider
I’m going to cut down on buying food/snacks while I’m at home. And I’m going to start printing and using vouchers for shopping. And finally I’m going to replace all the halogen lightbulbs in our house with LED bulbs.
I am going to try walking more and using the car less. It will save on both kinds of pounds so is a win win choice 🙂
Prepare lunch at home, spend less in canteen,
Order less take out, make fabulous cuisine,
Cut down on pub grub, try cooking alfresco,
One thing I won’t change – Buying food at Tesco!!
I’m already pretty frugal but have decided to budget much more tightly this year. A set amount for every week and no going over! We are not having a family holiday this year and are going camping instead, which will be just as fun but much cheaper!
Mine is to put some more money on the side, as we are hoping for another baby this year 🙂
I play to walk more this year and save on petrol costs. I also plan on cutting down on my mobile costs and pay less every month.
Im going to put a fork in the sugar bowl to replace the spoon.
make more fresh meals from home, especially my lunches.
Have tweeted too @bcd2009 🙂
Started freezing leftovers, because the amount that got thrown out was ridiculous, and walk the school run instead of driving!
I have bought a cheap diary to use to work out menus for home, using up what I have in the cupboards/fridge/freezer. Hopefully then we will use everything before it goes off. I’ll also use it to write my shopping list, and use that rather than buying what I *think* we need!
We are trying to move to a larger house (from 2 to 3 bedroomed) this year so the children can have their own bedrooms we still have some saving to do, so will be doing the following:
1. No holiday abroad this year, just saved tokens for a sun newspaper holiday, and will be having a couple of cheap UK trips in the camper van.
2. Using our tesco reward vouchers to exchange for fun days out with our children so that all we will need is a little bit of spending money whilst there and a picnic!
3. Eating out/take aways less – we have taken a liking to tesco curry’s!
4. Changing some of our household bill providers that come up cheaper on comparison sites
5. Save, save, save!!
Also tweeted @zaneandmoll
Buy less sweets! You’d be shocked how it mounts up……….
I am going to shop around for EVERY insurance and not just be lazy and go with the renewal quote.

Bringing home unused Toilet Rolls from work!
I think i’ll start going shopping after i’ve eaten so I don’t buy loads of stuff I don’t really need.
Buy only what I need
use up left overs
and try and save up for things I need
To try to use all leftovers rather than waste so much!
Stopped watching TV and got a refund on my license, now only watch recorded programs on the Internet.
I’m a single mum of 1 so I try and shop with a friend so we can take advantage of BOGOF offers and buying larger sizes to share (Loo rolls, coffee etc)
Have tweeted @kniknaxnjj
I’m going to use up the food that is in the cupboard and I’m sure that will be an intresting mix and match project. I will also be avoiding the shops and carrying a basket instead of having a trolley which will stop impulse buys
Try and cut down on takeaways and meals out.
I’m going to carry around a picture of a car in my wallet so that I feel obliged to not buy that subway and save for the car instead!
We are going to try and buy things that we NEED rather than what we WANT. We’ve wasted way too much money in the past on impulse buys that have hardly been used.
I have tweeted as @sam14no 🙂
I’m going to use my slow cooker more because even the cheaper cuts of meat taste great in it.
Get a pay rise!
I’m going to use my slow cooker more as even cheaper cuts of meat taste good in it.
I will use my log burner rather than central heating whenever possible.
Ebay unwanted items.
Look for offers when shopping and only buy items I really need.
I’m going to try and cook more home cooked food like stews and home made pies. I think it is cheaper and healthier.
Refuse to take the car for the school run unless the temperature is below -3 (using the “feels like” scale on the Met Office website) or torrential rain. After some grumbling, a few test runs and bribes of Wii time, the kids reluctantly agreed!
My plan is to save money and only buy what I need but not what I want. More comping for me!
No meat for a month
Buying in bulk, as long as I can store loads of loo roll in the living room!!
I’m going to change my supermarket. Going to try Aldi or Netto should save mega bucks with that move.
Grow more fresh veg.
Go eat at someone else’s house a couple of times a week (cut down on my shopping bills)

We are making lunches and cooking from scratch leaving enough for leftovers to freeze for another day.
Im going to use whats in my cupboards, grocery shop online to stop impulse buying and make sure I write a list and stick to it!!
I’m going to make sure I don’t waste food. I tend to buy alot of food and throw half of it away, so that’s my change.
Do your shopping online, saves you adding those extra items to your trolley and therefore saves you money. Also good for your diet, stops you automatically adding chocolate and cream buns! Oh how I miss them!
I’m going to make sure I compare and swap my electric and gas supplier. I find financial stuff so boring and seem to stick with the same old same old all the time.
Being more organised re BOGOFs on items I’ll always use by checking online what’s on offer before I leave and buying items like toilet roll, washing powder and other non-perishables whenever they’re on offer rather than waiting until I need them, when they may be full price.
Tweeted about the comp as @spanglisher
I intend to save money by not getting drawn in by too good to be true offers when shopping and spending to save (and then not saving)
To use my slow cooker more and use up leftovers…

I’ll be changing from buying the ‘premium’ type of food products to the cheaper supermarket own brand versions. Most of the times you can’t even tell the difference between the cheaper and the more expensive versions.
I’m going to budget and save money from now on by limiting my food budget to £200 a month and I shal drink no beer
I am shopping with my friend trawling the shops, buying all the BOG offs that we use and splitting the shop
By borrowing my housemates food…It saves me a lot of money 😉
Don’t waste money on multiple snacks during the working day. Eat a probber breakfast and lunch, and enjoy it. Be filled up by propper meals – which is more economical too.
This year I plan to save money mainly by cutting down on going out and doing things which can’t be made cheap [cinema, pub etc]. Instead I am focussing on doing things at home with friends and family.
That extra money is going straight into the uni fund, it definitely needs a boost.
My New Years resolution is not to waste food, because over Christmas we must have put over £100 worth of food in the recycled bin and the majority of it was edible.
I reckon on Bread alone I can save at least £15 a month so it looks like the ducks are going to be having a lean year.
Tweeted your tweet and one of my own for your competition as @helixoo
go to NCT sales to buy baby clothes for my 2, although I do it every year! Start selling stuff on ebay they grew out of!
homemade lunches to work, to avoid last minute trips to Morrisons dor their cornish pasties! In fact, I can make my own!
buy next Christmas presents bit by bit during the year to avoid hefty spend next December!
eat out less, and save for a cruise we want to take this year!
Use the Car much less and start to use our bicycles more 🙂
taking packed lunch to work instead of buying lunch, will save a few pounds
Have a month of store cupboard eating. Did this before we moved and we ended up saving money plus there was less in cupboards/freezer.

I think smart budgeting is not only making a shopping list of what you need, but also checking all the supermarket aisles every time you go. It’s amazing what offers I find even when something is not on my list for the week. That means I only stock up when it’s cheaper.
Our other food based resolution is to look through my hundreds of cookery books and choose fabulous dishes we would like to cook and eat that week as we have been very disorganised and frequently buy ready meals and veg. Hopefully our new mentality will turn food back into a treat rather than a chore and save money by doing it ourselves and getting creative with leftovers.
Online food shopping then I will not be tempted to pick things up that I do not need!!
Have retweeted and tweeted with tag, @UtterlyBumpty. Many thanks and kind regards.
Become a monk and live in a monastery. Free food and very quiet. Bliss!
Buy all of this years birthday presents this month in the sales!

I never buy anything new – so many bargains can be found at sales, eBay car boots etc.
We’ve reset the central heating timer so that it comes on for half an hour then off for an hour. As long as the stupid cat stays indoors instead of charging in and out of the cat flap letting cold air in (and worse than any teenager could ever be). . . it seems to work in saving quite a bit 🙂
I have bought one of those saving tins that you need a can opener to open, and have started saving £2 coins, one of my friends who is as bad with money as me saved £400 in her tin last year, and she said the tin wasn’t even full then !
I am trying to loose weight this year, so I am cutting back grocery shopping, if it isnt in the house I cant eat it!
Entering lots of competitions
By selling more of my stuff!
Always buy items that are heavily discounted and stock up with them
do all the overtime at work that is possible on my days off for the next 3 months and pay as much of my debts as possible with the extra money, which in turn will give me extra money on the fourth month and after because i wont be paying those bills monthly any more and the extortionate interest i was being charged.so overall a massive saving
Start shopping for Xmas and birthdays early and grab bargains when I see them!
Tesco won’t like this but I try to avoid them as their prices are high. I love my weekly shop at Aldi and know I get good value for money and many bargains.
getting two meals out of one ingredients, eg having a chicken for Sunday lunch, then the leftover chicken will be used for a curry, also all the leftover veg will be fried up like bubble and squeak, and served with something like bacon egg and beans
only drink alcohol 3 days a week.this will save me a fortune.
to make meal plans and stick to my shopping list!
Saving my decluttering the house and selling unwanted items on Ebay
I’m going to always make a list before going shopping and the only extra’s I’ll buy are the 2 for 1 on items I use all the time.
Our biggest expenditures by far are eating out and wasting food! So I’ve abandoned my Starbucks habit. £3 x 5 days a week x 46 weeks of the year = a whopping £690!!!
So I now have a flask, and by the end of the year should have saved enough money for a city break!
I have LOADS! Managed to get half an allotment last autumn so will be growing some of my own food, dusting off the breadmaker to make bread and pizza bases, have switched energy suppliers using a cashback site and buy most other things online through a cashback site too. I love money saving 🙂

I have tweeted about the competition too – @slbhill42
use less meat and use veg instead, shop for the whole week with a shopping list so you only buy what you need.
I have been hunting online for printable coupons to use on my supermarket shopping. Every little helps!
My new year resolution is not to purchase any more fizzy juice and use the free water tank at work! Saving £2 a day!!
teach my children (8 and 11 years) about not buying what they dont need, and how to make money by using the interest rates from banks
Change energy providerwhich I’ve just done, budget to just £50 a week for food shopping…no more biscuits.
I’ll be using my slow cooker to bulk cook meals in advance which will then be frozen in individual portions in microwaveable tupperware, meaning when I am hungry and can’t be bothered to cook, I won’t be wasting £4 or more on a supermarket ready meal any more.
I’ve booked this years holiday, but I’m only having a holiday every two years from now on

I plan to shop around when i need to buy things to make sure i get things at the best price.
Not going food shopping until I completely need to, using cupboard items and freezer items to the max. I havent been food shopping since before xmas and still have lots of meals that I can make.
We’re going to change our shopping to fortnightly instead of weekly, there are a lot of us in the house (2 adults, 4 kids) so I’m hoping to get a lot more stuff in bulk & take more advantage of the BOGOF’s etc, & then only get the things we need that are on offer. i.e. get the cheese thats on offer & not our usual brand. Think it will take the kids a bit of getting used to as they are used to certain brands, so it should be fun 😛
Wish us luck x

We’ve sold our car! Yes, it was time and we are now saving about £3000 per year in terms of insurance, road tax, servicing, MOT and of course, fuel. My wife and I have each paid £400 to get an annual bus pass and it’s so far been a finaincial money-saving success. Fortunately, we both work from home and don’t transit to work like most each and every day. The only time we miss the car is when we want to travel away for a weekend, but if we feel that way inspired, we’ll simply hire a car. We both feel much better for it and already we see, and feel, the penny’s saved.
Have tweeted about your competition as @shapala84

Set a budget for the weekly shop and stick to it.
Heating bills are a nightmare. We shopped around for the best deal and I also used an old tip from my Gran. Cover cardboard in tin foil, slide down the back of radiators and the heat is reflected back into the room not out through the bricks. It works. Also, using a slow cooker means you can buy save on food bills by using cheaper cuts of meat, make bulk quanties of curry/bolognese/stews and save on fuel too. Also saves time and washing up. Extra bonus!!! 🙂

My Budgeting resolution is to stick to my budget plan better!
To save money I will be cycling to work instead of getting the bus, saving over £50 per month, and getting myself fitter in the process. I am also limiting myself to one sensible night out per week, stopping having a drink on weeknights (a bottle of wine or a couple of beers every other weekday rapidly adds up!) I’m also going to stop smoking, which I estimate costs me about £900 per year, call in my debts, and move from a pay as you go contract (currently costing me about £15/month) to a monthly contract with the same features for about £7-£10/month. I’m going to keep up my sparse use of the central heating too, though I suspect my next energy bill will be a little more than the last one, which was only £90 for the quarter! There’s plenty more, but these are some of the main ones…
I have decided to save money by sending my children to school with pack lunches instead of them having school dinners……..This way I get to see what they are eating and save money
Hit the sales!! I’ve already bought most my families bday/Easter & poss next Xmas gifts from the BOOTS 75% off sale! Times are tough with only my partners wages & an extra addition to our family, we’re planning a big car boot sale too & I’m not ashamed to buy second hand either x

1. Ask 6yr old to have sandwiches instead of £1.90 per day school lunch – so far so good
2. Get 2.5 year old out of nappies so far so good (buying store branded night time pants)
3. Switch off all appliances by the switch not just the appliance – hoping to see a huge difference in our next bill!
Love n Lollypops x
cool
I’ve down loaded a barcode scanning app so I can check prices, and have started using vouchers / money off coupons instead of just sticking them in a drawer
invest some serious time in price comparison websites! Eat less, move more, walk rather than pay for transport, and stop buying shopping just because its on offer! I once ended up with three malt loafs just because they were on offer, I cant stand malt loaf!
buy all reduced priced items and look at a price comparisan website for the cheapest supermarket and never eat out
i have started to walk to the shops etc rather than letting my husband drive me, this has 2 benefits, savings on diesel and getting me fitter
My money saving resolution is to stock up on baby items whenever they are at a fantastic offer price – such as the nappies I bought today were half price for a large pack – I would normally buy 1 small pack but for the same price I was able to get a huge bag…..so i got two lol
As a family of 2, myself and my son, I have already learned to be pretty thrifty. I pretty much always cook from scratch. Soups, casseroles, stews, curries etc are the best as these can be split into the right size portions and frozen for another day and my shopping is always done by which items are on offer, that way making the most of my money when it comes to buying fresh meat. I am always selling unwanted items on ebay or in my local paper. The money I make is then put towards new clothes and items for the house.
My money saving route this year is to use my car less. I have recently changed jobs so that I work closer to home and just round the corner from the supermarket I use regularly, saving me nearly £10 per week in petrol. I have also stopped using it for short journeys, meaning I save petrol and get a bit of exercise, so it’s a double bonus.
Setting a weekly budget for spends, and not going over it!
I’m going to eat the bland free canteen meal at my work rather than bringing a home made lunch
I am going to start making peoples birthday presents from anything possible I can recycle starting with a bag I am going to make for my sister out of some old jeans I have! I think she will love it and it will cost me nothing!
Carry on growing, using and sharing as much home grown produce as I can.
Collect supermarket vouchers and go online to find the best deals
Make my own sandwihes for lunch at work. Also buy less magazines and spend that time reading books which don’t cost much more but last longer.
Grow more of my own veg and herbs
Using the car less and hopefully potty-training my daughter
Make more home made food instead of chips and processed foods. Collect more club card points to get rewards. And buy the things I need rather than buying rubbish
i have a few:
* Quit smoking
* Buy fewer/cheaper clothes
* Do my food shop online to keep an eye on how much im spending, and don’t buy too much
My New Years Resolution is to get healthier and lose weight and to help me do this I have been mading lots of home made soup – saves on the pennies and all good for me
I send off for free samples sourced on the internet. Not only do you get free samples but money off vouchers associated with them.

Wish me luck
We have given up takaways for 3 months!
I have several! Once my daughter is potty trained that will save £5/£10 a week!
Also i have an addiction to weekly real life magazines totalling a £5 spend a week which totals to £300 a year! Team that up with the nappies and ill be £600 better off a year if i put the money aside in a jar 🙂 Holiday for me and my princess <3
Took out 5 paper rounds earning me 100 pounds a week to save up for university for me and my little brother.
I’m setting a fixed weekly budget to try and meet

I always seem to spend too much when I go shopping. Especially on the family and especially on the special offers that are so tempting! So I try to have a week every 3 or 4 weeks when I don’t go shopping and use up everything I’ve already bought in the cupboards on inventive and special variations of meals!
Instead of heading straight to the shops I’m going to check the prices on a price comparison website first
started buying tesco nappies instead of pampers!
I’ve started sending the OH out for grocery shopping: he will only buy what is on the list, so it forces me to be more concrete on the things I need for the week, do some meal planning and waste a lot less.
Make a shopping list and stick to it!!!!! No extras
Order my shopping online then i wanted be tempted by the sweet things in the aisles

not buying things at full price and getting things when theyre cheaper, also selling things i dont use anymore
I’m swapping to shops own brands. They are usually just as tasty as the major brands, and as long as I hide the packaging, the kids can’t tell the difference.
Packed lunch for work!
Stop impulse buying – take a day to think about whether I really want or need the items and trust my intuition – give me time to research the item and shop around for best deal.
Looking for the best deals and less impulse buying
Will be growing most of our fruit and vegetables with the help of the children this year!
I’m gonna stop buying things I dont really need
I’m going to always look for savings and cheaper deals – vouchers, shopping around, good rates, etc.
Making my own sandwiches instead of buying of the office trolley
My new years resolution is to eat healthier and save money by spending less on junk!

To make more home cooked meals rather than ready meals, By buying local fruit and veg bags sold by the local council.
Remember to download and print off money off vouchers for special treats
Have a full meal before going food shopping… helps to avoid all those “Mmm.. they look tasty!” impulse purchases.
this year i plan to start couponing after watching the american show and the english one super scrimpers im hooked and will defo be keeping my eyes open for deals coupons and vouchers might even start my self a stock pile after all it is suposed to be the end of the world this year lol x
I have got my first mobile contract which is with Tesco and capped. It will save a lot of money on the house phone bill, as I was ringing my daughter’s mobile a lot. I will be using money off coupons as much as possible and still buying what is on offer at the supermarket and BOGOF’s. Then I make a menu for the weeks meals and use the offers
make a list of what I have in the cupboards/fridge/freezer and make sure I use that before purchasing more!
Have tweeted #moneyresolutions
@capodemonte
I am going to make more food from scratch, especially cakes and snacks to avoid buying shop ones which are more expensive and don’t taste as good anyway!
Use cashback websites on my online purchases in order to save money
Twitter entry
@paroteez
I’ve finally quit smoking & the money i’ll save is going towards driving lessons – i now also save money by having my OH change my passwords for my online catalogues so i can only purchase something if he orders it for me – which rarely happens. lol !
I’m going to stop using my debit card in shops – instead, I will take out the amount of cash I have budgeted for so that I’m not tempted by impulse purchases that I always regret later.
I follow you on Facebook too x x
Cook more at home, instead of going out and think 3 times before buying clothes that we don’t need. I will limit our spent by setting a limit amount of money to use in our bank account each month.
Buying what I need and reducing waist
We’ve decided that rather than paying to go out to fun places with the children (A day out at the aquarium cost us almost £60!!!) we will make our own fun and adventures by doing fun things for FREE!
So far we’ve had a treasure hunt in the local woods, had craft events at home, we visited the local pet store where the staff let the children pet the rabbits. We’ve fed the ducks, played at the park, done a nature trail, used free swim vouchers and had a night star gazing using a free app to identify the constellations
It’s surprising how quickly paying for days out can add up, we’ve saved lots already and we can’t wait for a bit of sunshine to brighten things up. Next weekend were making a bird house with junk from the garage!
i will b staying online in the cafe all day from now onwards
Thanks to the person who invented the Microwave, Heats Food, Crocery and my Bottle to go to Bed. Probably the greatest invented help to me.
I will be trying to make the food shopping cheaper by sticking to my list and not going shopping when I’m hungry!!!
Tweeting @LSullySullivan x
i have re-tuned my heating so it only comes on for an hour in the morning before i get up to go to work and so it is only on for couple hours in the afternoon when i get home from work and it is saving me alot on my heating bill
I’m trying to save as much as I can this year and so made myself a list, I checked it twice, I found out who’s been naughty and nice. In this way I hope to save money by ensuring nice bairns receive finest merchandise, followed by a sliding scale of behaviour to gift value, down to own brand merchandise for the more unruly bairns. Shy bairns, as always, get nowt.
Instead of buying a newspaper each day I’m going to get my news fix online
Those electric usage monitoring meters you can buy now, they really work. For example, now dusted down the toaster and use instead of the grill as it uses less than half the electric. Before never really thought of it. They really make you think about how much money you can and will save. Worth a look to buy or just borrow one.
Buy food that is reduced with a short date and freeze it then simply take it out to defrost in the morning or night before before you want to eat it. This will save an incredible amount of money over the year as well as cutting down on food wastage
taking packed lunches to work and sticking to my shopping list no buying what we dont need
I am making the most of my food, we make soup out of spare meat that isnt used on the day, we only buy food on offer if we will use it by the sell by date or it can be frozen-we used to waste so much!
My aim to is to save money so we can do our house up to welcome a little baby. We watch every penny, shop on line and try not to waste any food.
Grow as much of my own as possible, use vouchers to reduce shopping and check out those woopsies more often, only buy if on offer and no impulse buys…
walk instead of taking the train or the car
im taking packed luches and trying to save £2012 in 2012
smaller portions less booze
We have changed light bulbs to LED and my inventive husband has built his own solar panel and now is building his own warm air heater that will be powered by his solar panel!!!
I am cutting down on the food I buy – so much gets wasted otherwise. Temptation to buy bargains are all well and good as long as you eat and use what you buy!
On the baby front – We found some excellent ways of saving money :-
1. Invest in a thermos flask, boil kettle the once and keep water hot for babies feeds.
2. Revert to good old fashioned Milton Tablets – 1 a day = sterilisation for 24 hours
3. Old T-towels from charity shop make excellent ‘sicky burpy catchers’
4. Cut toes off baby-gro and put on pair of socks – baby-gro lasts longer then!
I really need to stop spending money on beauty products!
Instead of doing many small shops throughout the week we try really hard to plan our menu for a week ahead then do a single big shop and avoid the expensive top up shops during the week by knowing that we already have the food ready to cook each night.
i want to save the money by not spending much money on unecessary shopping or enjoyments and i want to help the poor with that money………
the competiton is very good……..
I find a great way to save money—is to spend someone elses!
making sure all leftovers are used to make other meals. soups or sandwiches to reduce wastage.
I write down every penny I spend in a diary – having to own up to those posh coffees, M&S sandwiches, to die for lippy’s, even if only to yourself in black and white really makes you consider if you actually need whatever it is.
Use mysupermarket to buy the best deals. Make a monthly plan for meals which allows me to work out multiuys to save more money on my shopping over the month.
My main budgeting new year’s resolution is to sort out my mobile phone contract; I’ve been out of my fixed deal for some time now and I’m sure I could save lots of money by fixing with the same provider or transferring to another, the thing is I’ve been burying my head in the sand up to this point, stop being an ostrich Helen and get it sorted.
by planning ahead more and buying things less on impulse
Im going to try to pay for car insurance and car tax in full this year as spreading it over the year is easier but does cost more money.
I’ve changed from driving to work every day to trying to cycle or ride my scooter to work as much as possible. So far this is saving me about £250 a month in petrol.
From the start of this year we have cut down on takeaways, from 1 a week to 1 a month…
Will be firstly, switching brand-name nappies and wipes for supermarket own brand
and secondly, making my own baby food and freezing in small portions instead of buying jars! Fantastic way to save money, especially with two kids! 🙂
make my own lunch to take to work
I am going to use as many money off coupon etc. as I can, In the past I’ve seen them in magazines etc. and thought I’ll use that but have never got around to it, however this year is going to be different, I’ve already started and have saved already
I’m cutting back on the weekly shop – always make a list and before I go and stick to a budget so that I don’t waste money buying things that I can do without.
Before any impulse purchase, scratchcard, coffee etc etc. Stop. “Do I REALLY need this?” Saved myself over £55 last month! 😀
I have made the decision to change over to reusable nappies and wipes, although there will be a cost at first, it should save us money as a family.
Shop around for Insurance and Utilities
Buy more Value Produts I.E General food shopping that i do at the local tesco.
I like drinking wine and lots of it! I will stop spending a small fortune buying wines from supermarkets and start making my own. I’ve done a lot of research and it really isn’t that difficult to make and would be totally organic. I will be aiming to produce flavours which aren’t really possible to get from supermarkets.
Don’t buy anything new; always buy from ebay or local papers or even swap with friends.
Shop around for groceries.
Walk more to use less petrol.
Save money by walking rather than using the car
Car related
I now combine trips in the car rather than wasting petrol doing individual trips. I have cleared out my boot so I am not carrying extra weight, uses more fuel. Check my tyre pressure each time I fill up. Look out for money off per litre offers and signed up to receive emails emails for the cheapest fuel in my area.
I am going to cut back on my food shopping and learn all those treasured home cooking recipes from my mum instead of paying through the nose for pre-made unhealthy junk!
Im also going to cut back on my TV Phone and Internet package which is extortionate. When your watching CBBies all day who needs 175 other channels? Freeview could save me a small fotrune!
To help cut back i view the tesco website before i go shopping to make sure i know what offers are available so that i don’t miss them whilst doing a frantic shop!
We have for the first time made a budget for each month – and will only spend what we have allocated for. We are determined to control out spending and decrease our overdraft for the first time ever. We are going to spend on what we need not what we want.
I’ve started to tell myself that ” If I really want it, I can have it next time I’m in the shop.” I find that come next time, I don’t want it, or have forgotten about it! I’ve saved over £100!
We have adjusted our shopping routine to now go only every 2 weeks so far this year it has saved us approx £45 a week, more walking to close appointments and places saves us cash and gets us fit, also all plugs and appliances are no longer being left on standby when not in use, and the central heating has been turned down by 2 degrees.
Having two children who seem to think that money grows on trees. I am always nagging about what every thing costs. Problem is they don’t listen. My phone bill is one bill which has gone up in price to have a good phone. This one sounds right up my street. and i could save on my bill:-)
Having two children who think money grows on trees. I am always nagging about what every thing cost. My phone bill has started costing me more so i can have a good phone. This one sounds rite up my street if i can save money 🙂
I’m not buying any new clothes. I’ve got clothes in my wardrobe that I have only worn once or twice so getting my moneys worth out of them.
I’ve stopped buying lots of convenience foods and have started making more soups and stews that can be separated into portions and frozen. I am also going to start growing my own vegetables this year. We will save money and should be a lot healthier for it.
Im going to be much more careful with my shopping this year. I cut down on expensive brands too and try and make more use of money off vouchers.
using more supermarket brands when shopping.
using my push bike more traveling to work.
putting a few pound in a jar a week
giving up drink eery other week.
times are hard
Stopped buying paper during the week and since then have found copies on the train most days free. Also with Metro and Evening Standard enough to read on journey anyway.
Whenever I need to pick up something from my local shops I am going to walk with my baby son. This way I save money on fuel, my son gets fresh air and I get fit. Everyones a winner! @esthermate
tweeted @esthermate
Become a ‘Supermarket Tart’ .. lol…. Don’t just rely on one supermarket for your shopping. Luckily I have the time to shop around and all the big supermarkets are close by. I stock up on the best buys. I’ve also found that our local Lidl have really fresh fruit and vegetables often at half the price of the big stores.
I have started menu planning to try to cut down on our shopping bills and stop wasting food.
errrmmm….
well ive stopped using all the lights in the house, eating out less, not buying new things everyday. entering comps!!
I am swapping some of my labelled brands for shops own. Trying to buy at least half my shopping in budget labels! xx
tweeted under @mariamunkey about #moneyresolutions comp
To save money this year I am going to try to do my shopiing online and get it delivered so then I will spend less on all the offers and goodies on displays around the supermarket and also if I do go to the supermarket I will try to do it when my 3 children are at school as when they are with me I end up spending an additional £20-30 per shop!!
I’ve manage to get an allotment, so growing as much food as possible. The leeks and onions are already in the propagator!
We have started saving money by not going shopping when we are hungry and doing our shopping online except for trips to local shop for fresh milk, fruit and veg. It has cut our bills almost in half and instead of immediately switching heating on when we dont need to and getting a blanket and snuggling up to watch a little bit of tv. Also in weather like this I had taken to putting radiators on to dry the clothes but now unless its needed for the next morning (uniforms) that i forgot to wash I use the airer instead.
I am only going to use my dishwasher and washing machine at night time when the tariff is cheaper, in order to save
I have tweeted about the #moneyresolutions competition, Twitter ID is MarcusWheel
I Check my car tyre pressures are correct , it can cost 10 -15 % if they’re under inflated. Redex fuel additive to clean the fuel system helps too.
#moneyresolutions Following and retweetd your comp. @PhilTB47
Enter more competitions and hopefully win free things 🙂
I am taking more packed lunches into work and I am drinking free water from the water filter at work rather than buying an expensive can of drink at lunch.
I have tweeted as @auroradreaming 🙂
I AM going to stop spending money on endless clothes and shoes that I wear once and then never see the light of day again! I am also going to stop buying peas 😉
cycle instead of using the car more
I am going to sell stuff on ebay on their free listing auction weekends and then with the profits I am going to book a holiday as I haven’t had one for a while.
Shop at Aldi, use less electricity.
We do one monthly shop, spilt packs of meat into smaller packages and put in sandwich bags i.e 2 chicken fillets in one sandwich bag is one meal for 2 of us, split a big pack of mice in 2 and put into sandwich bags, buy every thing we need for meals all month and freeze anything freezeable and anything fresh that we need we just buy weekley we save an absolute fortune not going to the supermarker all the time.
Oue budgeting new years resolution is that for the first time we are actually tracking where our money is going so we can set up a budget and look at where we can make cuts and saving! A big task for people who have never done it before. We are looking forward to saving enough money to buy an extra freezer so we can start buying in bulk tas we know that will help us save money that way.
I’ve made an excel budget spreadsheet that I’m filling in obsessively to ensure I don’t overspend!
Cut back on branded product swapping to supermarket own.
having 3 small children we are always looking for ways to cut costs especially in fuel and food i made it my new year resolution to try to cut down on our outgoings by recycling and by entering competitions for things that we really need rather than pay out a small fortune on things that we simply cannot afford in todays financial climate hopefully by the end of the year we might just be able to afford a little holiday xxx
Mat leave means LOTS of home baking/cooking as cheaply as poss. NO lunches out unless someone treats me, not being able to nip out to the pub is great for saving money. We’ve been watching films on Sky rather than going to the cinema so are doing fairly well so far!
Less heating – more jumpers!
I am walking more places so getting fit as well as saving petrol money
Stick to my shopping list!
planning food for the week, online shopping (less impulse buying) and trying a week of writing down every penny spent, those quick take away coffees/bites to eat soon add up!
Turn everything off at the plug at night 😉
I turn the heating down and turn it off when we’re not at home.
Use the dishwasher and dryer a lot less and shop around when my car and house insurances are due.
Shopping round to get the best deals at the supermarket each week. I think I can easily save upwards of £50 a month and we’re lucky enough to have six of the major supermarkets in our town.
ive got 2 give up smoking i spend so much on it would save me a fortune!
Try going shopping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as this is the day that Supermarkets cut the prices on many of their products.
I am using my t bags twice
Spend less on alcohol!
We have really made an effort this year to start saving money:
1. All loose change now goes in a “money pot” that needs smashed to open it, my mother done this last year and in 12 months of saving loose change, she saved £400!
2. I use cashback sites (dont know if I am allowed to mention the name), and honestly its fantastic, everytime I need to purchase anything ie car insurance, house insurance, general shopping, I go through this cashback site and can make quite a tidy sum
3. Eco friendly – we all now switch off things that are on standby, I dont know yet it if has saved us money, but googled a lot about it and by all accounts switching electrics off ie tv, toaster, kettle etc etc does save money, so fingers crossed it works
4. Down grading shopping – I now purchase cheaper/non branded food and have to say it saves me a fortune, initially I used comparison food shopping websites, but now go to Aldi, and honestly it has saved me easily £100 per shop
And think thats its lol
Use the coupons I get sent other than throw them in the drawer only to discover them 2 days after they run out 😀
I’ve decided to buy food in bulk (like meats etc) that I can freeze and plan meals in advance.
i have started meal planning for 2 weeks so only have to do a top up shop inbetween for fresh food. Also with every insurance renew I am going to compair instead of just accepting the new policy.
I am going to get a smartphone and learn how to use the features to save me time and money, and stop replicating work already done. And I will also be able to work on the go, leaving time to spend with my family. The money I will save will help pay the ever increasing costs of my bills!
We are doing a lot this year to cut down on expenses as money is tight. We also want to be more environmentally friendly.
At the beginning of the year I realised we were paying far too much for broadband subscription & phone services so as our contract had finished I changed our providers to one who does both & our bills have gone from £65 a month down to £35!
I have also changed our energy provider service to a much cheaper tariff & I intend to use an electricity monitor that I was given by someone to identify anything we can switch off & save.
We bought a Breville hot cup water dispenser so that we only boil enough water for 1 cup of tea at a time – less wasted energy & its incredibly quick.
We got a composter in the garden to recycle all the fruit & veg peelings & tea bags & it will save us money on buying shop compost.
I did not go “window shopping” during the Christmas sales as it normally only leads to temptation & spending money on “bargains” which we probably didn’t really need. I must have saved a huge fortune on what I spent in previous years!
I did intentionally go to the Clarks sale & bought all the kids school & home shoes in the next sizes up which will save me at least £20-25 a pair on the usual price & mean that the kids are sorted for the next year (or at least hopefully until the next sale!s)
I have a strict “no buying anything unless it is really needed” to stop any wasteful frivolous purchases wasting our resources. we also stay well away from the shops & any big purchases are made online after researching the best price of the item.
I did have 2 fridge freezers running as we are a largish family, but we now only run one & shop more frequently for the reduced price items. It’s cutting down on electricity bills & meaning that we waste much less food too.
I am buying only the cheap supermarket branded washing powder which is £1.80 for 30 washes – compared to the branded stuff which is several times the price. I’m also trying to put as much on quick 30 degree washes as I can.
I’m also sticking to the Basics supermarket own products & buy one get one frees & reductions at the supermarket to keep the grocery bills down. There always seems to be offers so I am sticking to them instead of specific brands & I take a shopping list that I keep to!
We are walking more & walk the kids to the park rather than taking the car as it keeps fuel bills down!
I intend to do a spring clean on all my direct debits, shop more on line and use cash back sites when I do, research all purchases, large and small. Cook more meals from scratch and plan my meals on a weekly basis. Decluttter my wardrobe and my loft and sell/give to charity. This should keep me out of mischief for some time!
Definitely to use the car more so less fuel cost and more exercise! xxx
I need to look for better deals on my utilities. Perhaps change broadband too and definitely look at my savings account.
I’m doing two things – packed lunches to work, as well as doing the marathon. The latter may not seem a direct route to financial stability, but as I’m giving up drinking as part of my preparation it’s certainly saving me a few quid!
im saving 50p a day towards my wedding shoes 🙂 once ive saved enough for them i want to try and save £1 a day for other small wedding items, im not getting married until summer 2014 so plenty of time to save up xx
My husband and I gave up smoking at the end of last year, the reason being for our daughter & our health. This year we have realised we are £200 better off each month, makes me feel quite sick to think we smoked away all that money each month and for what?! I am making more of an effort with printing off discount vouchers for eating out, nothing embarrassing about saving the cost of half of your meal. Also we are going to spend a couple of days price comparing all our bills xx
looks good!
The best way to save money is to say “no” more often.
i am going to stop spending money on fast food and in every weak the money which i gathered was going to be spend for the poor children
the money which we are spending for one night party is equal to two months food for the poor family.so please help the poor.
I’ve started to shop around a but more rather than just buy on impulse when i see something and more often than not after ive spent an hour online shopping around ive had enough and realise that i never even wanted it in the first place………lol
I am trying to reduce my shopping bills, so I try to only shop 3 out of 4 weeks now.
I need to change to a capped tariff as this will save me a fortune. Great idea.
I try to walk more rather than take the car, this helps to keep me active too
If i go on a night out which usually costs a fortune, most of the money goes on taxis and drink, so i now drive and dont drink, where when i would usually spend £50 to £60 i now only spend 15 at the most which is great.
lastly instead of having the heating on at night i just heat a hot water bottle up and that keeps me warm and cozy 🙂 xxxxxx
spend less at the supermarkets, cook in bulk and freeze more, stopped buying magazines each week
have tweeted @gumbie23
Walking more instead of using public transport to work which should save me about £20 a week. Also taking packed lunches which should save me about £15 a week.
I make sure all unused electrical items in my house are switched off.
its surprising just how much money you can save just by spending a couple of minutes going around checking
My new years budget resolutions are to eat out less, drink less alcohol and cook more homely, healthy food.
I have tweeted @zorenalaguea Great site btw 🙂
use comparison websites and regularly check whether I can get a better deal on utility bills and home insurance etc. Also im now walking to and from school with my children all the time (even when its raining)
walking more instead of using car
Buy branded cosmetics at the pound shop. I accidently stummbled on this and couldn’t believe it that they were selling those brands, a true moneysaver!
Grow My Own
Im a huge fan of organic fruit and veg, last year I grew my own tomatoes, herbs and strawberries and they were fab
This year Im reusing my hanging baskets for strawberries, reusing plactic packaging for growing herbs, and in my flower beds im going to grow tomatoes peas, beans, carrots, onions and corgettes 🙂
Try To walk to as many places as possible! Saves Me $$$! And Health!!
Use the car less, turn the heating down a notch and cut down on the red wine!
Dont waste food, and use everything before its use by date
I AM GOING TO START KEEPING TRACK ON WHAT I SPEND AND SHOP ONLINE SO I DONT END UP BUYING THINGS IDONT NEED.
Cloth nappies and reusable wipes are our money saving plan for 2012. Plus, we are helping the environment too! It is definitely giving me and my 6 month old son the feel good factor!
im buying more shops own brand items, especially things like shampoo, fizzy drinks etc. its amazing how much cheaper these items are. also shopping at the £1 and 99p shops
I don’t put the heating on during the day, which can be pretty difficult, however the weather hasn’t been as cold as usual, and I try to wear more but sometimes still not enough. I also try to look for deals, compare prices, and wait usually before buying something right away. Look for freebies too! 😛
I have 2 children ages 3&4 and Am pregnant with number 3 (due in April) instead of going out and buying brand new products I need for new baby I am ebaying everything for a lot less which has probably saved me over £1000 so far ! Go me 🙂
change phone/broadband supplier to save money
To shop around instead of buying all my groceries in one place and not get fooled by special offers.
Just spend as normal.
*start taking free lunch box from home to college.
* using few rejected clothes at home or on morning walk rather purchasing new.
* spending more time inside home rather going outside with friends.
I’m deliberately home baking/cooking much more. No more popping out for cookies/snacks, no more takeouts. I’ve got some fab cookie/muffin/brownie recipes and some great meals that taste fab and take less than 20 minutes to cook, so less time than ordering a take away. I love cooking, it tastes great, the kids love helping and it saves so much money!
Enter more competitions!!!
but from the reduced section of the supermarkets
I’m going to eat more vegetable based/ vegetarian meals. Vege are relatively cheap as well as healthy so it should help to save some money, and even if it doesn’t I’ll be healthier for trying.
my top tips for money saving, meal plan buy reduced meat and freeze it. Leave the car at home and walk when you can (weather dependent!) I save change 5ps 1ps 2ps and £2 coins – look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves! We are saving the money for a family holiday 🙂
do more of my shopping at tesco as it is the best store by far and will help me save money also start by quitting smoking and for every penny that would of been spent buying them i will put away in a jar
Stick to a food shop budget and only eat out as a treat once a month and look for coupons online for that. Walk to shops that are close by and car share to work where possible.
i have 4 children we have to plan our meals on a weekly basis in advance …also buying all the cheaper makes and shopping around like getting my veg and meat from the market helps …so much cheaper than the supermarket !!!!
grow as much fruit and veg at home also cook in bulk and freeze any left overs x
Stop smoking and do alot more things with the kids, and hopefully be lucky with my competions x
I’m keeping the heating turned down and doing more home-baking this year to save some money.
Cook everything from scratch, stay away from the reduced section so I dont buy things just because they have a yellow sticker, dont buy extra stuff for the kids birthdays just so they have more to open
Going to live in the trees and become one with nature, can someone pass me the toilet shovel…….
Be more conservative with spending
my tip is i’ve bought herbs to grow in the kitchen. Its saves me a little money not buying the dried ones, they taste better and my 5 year old has his own mint plant he looks after so it gets him interested in gardening and growing your own food. In the summer we’re going to try a vegtable patch and grow our own veg to try and save a bit more!
We are stopping going to the pub/out for meals and are having ‘come dine with me’ evenings at home with friends
stopping smoking and drinking is saving us a fortune 🙂
I’m car sharing with two other people from work. So I now only have to use my car one week in three. It honestly saves a fortune.
make meals in bulk and freeze them 🙂
Only carry limited amout of cash and destroy my credit cards
I am going to eat all the canned stuff I have accumulated in my cupboards!
to keep a spreadsheet of all outgoings to keep a track of spending
avoid takeaways and cook my own
Shopping around more to get the best deals.
i use coupons to save money! last week i saved £20 on my food shop!!!!
Only go food shopping once every ten days instead of every week
Used supermarkets own rather than named brand goods.
plan meals ahead , so i can buy only what i need instead of what catches my eye and spend a fortune grrrr
Reducing the amount of food I waste and trying to buy more wisely
Check all my utility and insurance bills at least once a year and move around to get a better price where possible. Also – 2012 is all about the cashback!
Lower my food brands by one or two where i can.
By shopping around and using price comparison sites before purchasing
I’ve been pretty much on a budget all of my life. Never spend money you do not have i.e. do not own a credit card or take out loans for frivilous things.
Every penny counts, every penny that doesn’t need to be spent isn’t
This year looks set to be even tougher on the wallet so I aim to give myself at least 1 day every month to sit and check where I can make savings, from food to fuel and from utilities to insurances, It’s good to know that Tesco cover all of these so their worth a look.
I’m hoping to save money on bus fare by cycling to town
tweeted @alsmonster
Going to the pub less and given up smoking
I am using price comparison websites more, getting cashback and I found a little work top freezer which will help me to save money..
I intend to sell a lot of things I don’t need on ebay.
Make use of things around the house instead of buying new items at all the time- Recycle in a fashionable way. Also stopping buying on impulse when items are not needed!
I am avoiding any shops and the temptation that goes with them.
Stop just nipping into the shops. I always buy extra bits I never intended to buy and it all adds up.
Try taking cash with you to pay for shopping instead of a debit card I guarantee you will spend less each time you shop
Have tweeted about comp as ~ @manna137
make my lunch to eat at work x
I am going to recycle my wardrobe. I need to do a big sort out, stop spending and re-wear many of my clothes :). This will definately save me money.
I am going to make sure I use the internet to get the best deals on everything, and have vowed not to go out for dinner unless it’s a brilliant 2 for 1 voucher deal or a huge Groupon discount! We used to spend loads on eating out and there’s no need with all the special offers around! I am also going to use a cashback site for all my purchases (rather than just a few when I remember!) and I am going to cut down on the amount I spend on presents for people – I know that none of my family or friends would want me to bankrupt myself for their sakes!

buy the 2 for 1 offers and buy for 2 weeks for the price of one
only buy what we need so we stop wasting food and money. drink less wine! instead of buying a new phone try to win a nice one like this!
Reduce my car usage to save petrol.
i will be dropping down to supermarket own brands as I know they are good quality and value
Cook from scratch, use all leftovers up. Buy supermarkets own brand. Make your own cleaning products…you don’t need endless bottles of products. White vinegar, baking powder and Lemon juice are all you need.
Buy cheaper products when I’m going shopping.
Buy less, spend wisely and sell unnecessary things on ebay.
This is so nice of you to give that away 😀

One of the ways I plan to save money this year is through entering free competitions online and winning things!! I have recently found out about a brilliant website called theprizefinder.com which lists links to 1000s of competitions. There are some great winners’ stories showing that with just a little bit of effort you really could win some amazing prizes. It’s incredible how much is out there just waiting to be won, from DVDs and toys to fabulous holidays and big shopping vouchers! Even if I don’t win anything, I am discovering some wonderful sites along the way which I may otherwise have never found – like this one! 🙂
Don’t pay for the bus or the train, just walk or cycle instead.
I have already done a budget planner for the year and so far this year i have saved nearly £300 not bad for a month but looking good
We bought a chest freezer which we use to freeze leftovers and we freeze any fresh foods that might not get eaten straight away.
I have began online shopping with tesco, which allows me to stick to my shopping list and not be tempted by my hunger when walking around stores. I have also started using price comparison sites to check for cheapest insurances and other items. I have made lists of items I want to buy, and save up the money in a jar before buying it, so I see the cash value and can work out if I really need it or not.
So far, I am doing well 😀
Write a list before going shopping and stick to it,I have saved ££££ doing this.
Definitely try to sell more stuff on EBay! And this time, not buy anything from it either!
make my own lunches
Buy less coffee on the go
Save 10% of everything I earn.
Plan my meals for week ahead so when i shop i only buy persihables i need
I’m cooking meals from scratch instead of buying overpriced convenience food. Switching my energy supplier has meant cheaper bills and tesco clubcard points. I save these points as well as the ones gathered from shopping throughout the year to help with the expense of xmas. I have also set up a savings account with a new tool from the bank that helps me track my savings for a special event – again xmas. I am determined to pay for it in advance this year instead of getting into debt that takes me half of the next year to pay back as usually happens!
I plan to save money by looking at what food waste I have and looking at ways of using it up before it becomes waste. I’ve bought myself several cookbooks and now most of our leftovers or food that is off short date is used up making a whole family meal rather than in the bin! I’d say it makes up at least 2 main family meals a week, this has so far saved us a fair bit of money and we’re only at the end of January. Plus it makes me feel better as I absolutely hate food to be wasted.
To downshift slightly, buying cheaper brands and to do extra hours in the evening to create a surplus to save.
I’ve already started by quitting smoking saving £35 a week. I also walk to work 3 days out of 5 to save on petrol money
My best money saving tip is to make sure you use everything you buy – sounds silly, but that honey-bean-couscous casserole could be the best thing you ever made!

i brought a student cookbook so i can stop spending money on junk food
I’m going to stop eating so much chocolate, and perhaps stop drinking so much cider! Should save me a few pennies… and help me look better too!
by entering in various competitions on websiter and newspapers and winnning the prizes and money
I’ve less heating on this year than previous years …. and also a good clearout and off to eBay !
Meal planning – this massively reduces wastage!!! 😀
1. Bring packed lunches to work
2. check reduce to clear items in supermarket
3. check online for bogof’s prior to going shopping
4. reduce thermostat by 1 degree
Im combining getting healthy with saving money – Im stopping smoking, saving me £20 a week, biking to work, saving me £15 a week, and drinking less, saving me at unknown about !! Going to see how it goes, might be healthier and have more money but ultimately might be tooooo boring !
I’m walking to work instead of taking the car!
Have tweeted as @IreneH2 using #moneyresolutions
My lovely other half bought me a subscription to my favourite glossy mag so that will save me so much money as my addiction to fashion and celebrities really does add up! Also I wanted to buy some new towels after many a hair dying faux pas! I’ve decided instead to dye them all navy blue and they really do some up lovely! Saving me a £100 which I put towards presents and tickets to the zoo for my Ted’s 1st birthday!
Always go through a cashback site when purchasing goods and insurance products online for extra cash!
Always search for discount vouchers online and use reward schemes such as Nectar and Clubcard. Cashback sites such as Quidco can be good too. Enter lots of competitions and use survey sites
I go shopping late on a sunday and buy lots of reduced meat, sometimes I will even ask for more money off if im feeling brave and usually the shop assistant reduces further. I then freeze it all and have a freezer full of meat for the whole month ahead at 70% of the cost
I just need to work harder, save more in a higher interest account, spend less on items that i dont really need and try and follow some of the ideas from some of the money saving guru’s that give helpful information on t.v and the internet. 🙂
I’ve swapped from a contract to pay as you go and now spend under £10 a month on my mobile! 🙂
I will use the internet to my advantage, checking my emails regularly to be first to hear about sales and searching money saving websites to keep up to date with all the good deals going around.
I’m changing my normal food shop to Tesco Value items. I’m saving loads of money and finding many of the items are just as good as the more expensive ranges.
I go shopping at reducing time that really cuts down my food bill!
Always look in the reduced section of supermarkets before buying
I plan on ultilizing my garden space more – bringing out my Barbara Good from The Good Life TV Show – keeping bees, growing a few herbs, veggies & fruit bushes!
I use nectar, boots advantage card and tesco schemes to save me money and enter competitions to help me save money and use discount vouchers 🙂
I plan meal menus for the week, and write shopping lists just buying the things I need for the meals… helps with dieting too, as we don’t buy any treats either- making use of BOGOFs and deals along the way.
I swapped to pay as you go my contract ended in December
stop buying sctrach cards and wasting my money!
always stick to my budger on food shopping, and to scour the internet for vouchers
We’ll be making extra at meal times to take for lunch the next day.

I’m trying to budget for ‘entertainment’ every month so that I can still treat myself to something nice (be it going to the cinema or having a bar of chocolate) without feeling guilty!
waste less food and dont buy anything unless i really need it
make my own sandwiches for work instead of buying them

my weekly shopping budget for 2adult and 2children will be £50, this will be maximised by using as much money of coupons as possible
I shop around and visit discount shops for my basics rather then going to the main supermarkets. I buy meet and veg from the market or look for special offers using the internet..
enter more competitions to reduce my spending on things i need
got rid of my catalogues so im not tempted to order anything

I’m going through my cupboards & freezer and planning my meals before I go shopping – as well as saving a fortune in wasted food – I’ve stopped buying duplicate items that I think I need but don’t as there’s a bottle/tin lurking at the back of the cupboard.
walk to the shop to get the paper instead of having it delivered
I’ve stopped buying “Bargains” that then lurk unworn/ uneaten in the depths of my wardrobe / freezer! It’s only a bargain if it’s used!

To stop wasting money on unnecesary items and to think more before I spend!
