Have you seen Aldi’s latest ‘Like Brands, Only Cheaper’ TV adverts? Well I was asked to have a go myself. I have never shopped at Aldi and kind of thought their own brand stuff would taste own ‘brandsy’ and a little bit ‘cheap -ish’ if you know what I mean, Here is a list of what I was sent own brand and branded.
- Belmont Milk Chocolate Digestives – 55p vs McVities Chocolate Digestive Biscuits – £1.00
- Harvest Morn Frosted Flakes – 99p vs Kelloggs Frosties – £1.98
- Red Label 160 Tea Bags – 1.99 vs PG Tips 160 pack – £3.00
- Alcafe Rich Roast Coffee (200g) – £1.45 vs Nescafe Original Coffee Granules (200g) – £4.00
Okay well first up was the choccy biscuit test …
My son declared it a draw till pushed then chose the Aldi one as better.
We moved on to cereal
My daughter also quite shockingly to me chose the Aldi cereal and I still am not sure if it was because of the penguins on the front or the taste. I had a little try myself. they were very similar.
I koew with my tea which was the real PG Tips but them I am a life long PG tips tea drinker. Yet I would say the Aldi tea was very nice and I would happily drink it.
In terms of coffee instant coffeee isn’t something I like (how rubbish for somoeone on a budget!) and I could not tell the difference between the two coffees and neither could my husband.
Well done Aldi. 3/4 of your swere just as good if not better! and I liked your tea too. I am surprised and impressed and will be own brand shopping with you some day soon!

I am an aldi girl, they never fail to amaze me at the quailty of their products. They are great value and the girls in the local shop all know me, so I get great service too.
I have to say, I love Aldi and they do have some really lovely products. Because they are sourced in Europe, which has stricter rules than theUK, a lot of their drinks and stuff have less colourings/flavourings etc… then ours. And their range of continental cheeses and meats is great and a lot cheaper than other supermarkets
