Where is the cheapest place to live ?

I am fascinated by money and the cost of living but you have to be careful not be too nosy.  I live in an expensive area in terms of property prices, activities and basically a one wage family struggles here in middle class suburbia.

I dream of heading of heading to the other side of the world where the sun shines and costs are low and we can all kick back for a while.

Over at Budget Direct there is a fabulous Cost of Living index where you can contrast and compare how much it costs to live in various places. Now I can be nosy without anyone knowing.

It is so interesting, you can compare up to 3 places and look at  a host of different variables. Some are fascinating and quite a shock.

For example:

Milk is dearer in Birmingham than in Sydney or Los Angeles but bread is far cheaper!

Property prices in Sydney are significantly higher  and in Birmingham they are by far the cheapest. Oh dear, I guess it’s not so rosy on the other side is it! Mind you it is a pretty good it is cheapest  in Birmingham as pay there is the lowest too. And in spite of all the stars and their hugely reported film earnings people in Los Angeles earn a good portion less than those in Sydney.

Getting around in London is pretty much dearer than ANYWHERE else.

However word to the wise, if you are after a TV or a pair of jeans head on over to LA !

Fascinating finance facts!
