I currently live in West Sussex and we are blessed with what is around us! There are lots of wonderful places that you can visit that are either free or on a budget. I have included the free ones here, apart from parking obviously!
West Wittering Beach
West Wittering beach is on the south coast and is one of the best beaches in the area. It is one of the sandiest beaches around and you can easily spend the day there, all for the cost of parking! Which varies depending on the time that you go in the day and the time of year that you are there, it is between £1.00 to £7.00 so it is a very budget friendly place to go.
As well as the beach there are loads of activities that are going on throughout the year. The reason we love West Wittering so much is that you can take your dog, on various parts of the beach throughout the year. You can also have lessons in wind and kite surfing and power kiting. There is a cafe and a massive parking area on fields that you are able to sit at and have your own BBQ. It is a place that we go to regularly and you can spend a long time there!
Bognor Regis is another great beach to visit, although it is not as sandy as West Wittering but there are more things going on rather than just the beach. As well as the sea side you have a little play area, fun fair, with a bouncy slide, merry go round, go carts and some boat swings. These all need tokens that you can buy there. There is the pier that has the arcades on, and there is crazy golf. All of these things have individual prices, but you can choose what you want to participate in or not. There is a great walk along the sea front, and dogs are allowed on here. You can get fish and chips on the sea front and eat them on the beach in your hired deck chair. It is easy to park on the sea front and easy to see where everything is!
If you are looking for non beach things to do West Sussex still has lots for you to see. Sticking with Bognor Regis they have the fantastic Hotham Park.
Hotham Park is a great place to take any family members old and young. It is open all year round and is free entry. There is a house that is open to the public, but there is a new boating lake, Mediterranean and tropical gardens, a children’s play area, miniature railway and putting green and crazy golf. It is only five minutes walk from the beach and has something for everyone there.
Petworth Park is a national park comprising of 700 acres and house and it is stunning. A great place to take a picnic, have a nice long walk and let the children run. At different times of the year you can see many animals, including birds, and deer! You have to pay admission for the house and grounds but at only £27.30 for a family it is not an overly expensive day out. You rarely have the same walk along the park and you never know what you may find. All children love the long walk and the adventure of what they are going to see and find.
