Summer Maternity Wear : Top Styles for 2014

Summer Maternity Wear

Being pregnant isn’t easy at the best of times, let alone when the summer season takes hold and humidity is at its peak. Carrying a few extra pounds because of a growing baby can make you extremely uncomfortable, and it’s essential that you have a good selection of maternity clothing that won’t make you feel worse than you already do.

It’s understandable that many pregnant women feel reluctant to buy a whole new wardrobe to accommodate their new shape – especially as they will only need to wear the clothes for a few months. And while, most of the time, you will be able to ‘make do’ with what you already have, it’s also a good idea to treat yourself to some new items. This isn’t just because they will fit better, but also because it can make you feel better and more confident in yourself, too.

The problem is, in many cases, maternity clothing can be expensive. Money that many people will say can be better spent elsewhere. However, there are some ranges, such as George at ASDA’s maternity clothing, that are not only affordable but look great too, and as the summer months hit, there are some great maternity styles to look out for.

Maxi Dresses

You will probably be able to get away with normal maxi dresses for the first and second trimesters, but if you’re close to term, chances are even these won’t fit properly anymore. Maternity maxi dresses are a perfect way to look great, and feel cool, in the summer months. Choose an empire line with fabric that falls from the bust and team with a pair of sandals for the ultimate summer look.

Harlem Pants

These aren’t just for MC Hammer, you know. Harlem pants are back, and are still super comfortable. Three-quarter pants or full length – it’s completely up to you – but regardless of what you choose, the loose fabric and elasticated waist, plus the on-trend style, will make any pregnant woman feel fab.

Linen Trousers

Trousers can make you feel clammy in heat at the best of times, but especially when you’re heavily pregnant. However, opt for a linen pair of trousers, such as the white linen rich maternity trousers from George for £14, and you will feel cool this summer.

Vest Tops & Cami’s

Thin strapped vest tops are versatile must-haves for any maternity wardrobe. Pick some up in several colours – black, white, bold colours – and team them with a variety of skirts, trousers and shorts. Tops with ruched sides accommodate the growing bump so you won’t need to buy more as you get closer to term. These are also cheap as chips so you can fill up your wardrobe with a rainbow of new tops for very little.

Swimwear

Whether you’re going on holiday, you like to keep fit or you’re taking your children to the swimming baths, maternity swimwear can help to make you feel comfortable in, and out, of the water. If you’d prefer to avoid a one-piece, a tankini is a great way to go, as are bump-bearing bikinis if you’re feeling confident and brave enough!
