Storytelling sessions at John Lewis and a great kid’s storytelling competition

This summer (from June21st)  John Lewis will be having storytelling in all it’s stores with a variety of storytellers (including me!) so do make sure you pop in to your local store and be entertained (for free.)

How children love stories!

A number of storytelling projects are taking place at John Lewis this year (actually their 150th!) as they are working to support Barnardos …a wonderful children’s charity close to my heart.

In supporting vulnerable children to thrive Barnardos advocate parents engage them in 5 activities from birth. These activities are Respond, Cuddle, Relax, Play and  Talk ….all intrinsic to storytelling. So John Lewis are sending out their partners to read in schools, putting on their own storytelling sessions in store and they are also running a rather fabulous competition. Contact your local store for details of sessions.

The ‘My Splendid Story’ competition is for children aged 3 – 11. Entrants are encouraged to use plenty of imagination and creativity to tell their stories using words and drawings on their very own storyboard. You can visit their Storytelling page  for details of how to enter, and to download an application form.

Children can win an iPad Mini and £150 worth of books for their primary school and the closing date for entries is 19 September, with winners announced in October.

Doesn’t that sound like a fun thing to enter?

Do check out your local John Lewis for their storytelling sessions and keep on storytelling!
