today – Stone crafts with Kids
I love stones and making stone art with kids. I love their irregular shapes their solid, ancient feeling. I love that they soothe us when we stroke them and that people have communicated via stones since the world began.
On a very sunny day this week we were thinking about the elements of the sun and the earth and decided to make some stone art. We had to use gold the ‘colour of summer.’ We used a metallic pen and have varnished the stones to preserve the art.

I made this stone circle for my children to sit and contemplate and place it by the pond
Our inspiration for stone art with kids
I have always been inspired by stone and it’s strength and resilience. I love this story of the stonecutter and the sun
Our painted stones have been inspired from a pinterest board pin found by Mum in the Madhouse from which she has been making memory stones with her children.
Last year inspired by Chris at Thinly Spread we made fairy houses out of stone.

This is such an adorable idea. My kids LOVE painting on stones. I guess they are just tactile and irresistible. Love the idea of relating them to memories.
Thank you for sharing on Kids Get Crafty!

The painted stones came out great. The stones with words remind me of the ones you can buy at nature stores. It is much more fun to make your own. I hope you will link this post (and any other arts, crafts and play posts) to Artsy Play Wednesday on Capri + 3. The weekly linky is currently open.
