Profile of a Budgeting Mum: Tracey Beedle

Hi, what’s your name? Tracy Beedle

Any kids? 2 children, Jack (9) and Charlotte (5)

Do you work? FT/PT? Part Time self employed direct selling. Independent Phoenix Trader.

Why do you work?

I now work for several reasons, some extra family finances, but also for my own self satisfaction, making me me and not just mum.

What are your child care arrangements? None, flexible working, both children are now at school, and Mark is at home for any evening / weekend work.

How do you manage for money? Money at the moment is much tighter than before children when I was working full time, but we manage mostly on Marks income and we have cut back on lots of lifes extras.

Do  you worry about money?

We’re really careful and show the value of money to our children, but try not to worry.

What do you waste money on?

We don’t waste much money these days. We have just enjoyed a nice trip away for a couple of days. Been to Stratford, had a good deal on a Premier Inn, had a day out at Kenilworth House – free entrance with English Heritage membership, Warwick Castle which was fantastic – ½ price with EH membership. Meals both nights were either courtesy of Tesco vouchers or ½ price voucher from Voucher .com.  Things like this isn’t wasteful, we’ve come back refreshed enjoying family life.

Have you made any big financial changes since having kids?

Yes, I have given up my full time role as a civil engineering project manager to be there for my children on a daily basis.

How do you make extra cash?

I’m currently looking into ways of doing this, shortly hope to be setting up a blog / website and developing some other ways of networking to assist the business.

Can you share 3 top budgeting tips for other parents?

1. Don’t live on credit, if you can’t afford it, don’t have it is my motto.

2. Be organized. Plan your weekly shopping writing menus etc and buy just what you need.

3. Look at what’s important to your children, those things don’t cost money.

Thanks so much for you answers Tracey – great advice! .
