Is fair trade something you think about when you shop?
I have to admit it is not something I tend to think about when I go shopping I go for good value over pretty much everything. But I do believe in fair trade absolutely and should definitely look to do more to support it.
I have been looking into it and found out some more about fair trade
WHAT IS FAIR TRADE?
Fair trade seeks to transform the lives of poor producers in the developing world by enabling them to use their skills and resources to trade their way out of poverty.
It seeks to challenge injustices in trading structures and practices that so often lead to the exploitation and marginalisation of poor people.
Traidcraft
Traidcraft is the UK’s leading fair trade organisation. Their mission is to fight poverty through trade, they helped develop the fairtrade mark which guarantees
– A fair price which covers the cost of sustainable production
– An extra premium to invest in community projects
– Defined standards for the health, and social and economic welfare, of producers
– Defined standards for the protection of the environment
I have been taking a look at the traidcraft shop and their ar some lovely gift ideas there (see above) and they also have food/household/clothes/jewellery/cards and paper toys. (I am rather taken with these origami cards just £6 for 6 and so cute!!)
or how about these little bird purses 2 for £8?
Gifting a child a fair trade item for a birthday or Christmas is a great way to open up discussions with them about fair trade. It is important that they start as t a young age to understand why we should help ensure people everywhere get a fair price for the amazing goods they produce and properly compensated for their hard work.
