10 top tips to save money on Black Friday
Have a Black Friday shopping list – Before you do any sales shopping it is a really smart idea to have a wish list or shopping list of some sort in front of you. This way your sales shopping will stay focussed and on track. This should also help you avoid making impulse purchases that you do not need and that do not align with your budget.
Have a budget – Always shop with a budget in mind so you don’t get into that sales shopping frenzy and forget how much you actually have available to spend. Overspending so close to Christmas (or at any time) is not a smart thing to do. So, it is well worth knowing exactly what you can afford to spend and sticking to it. I would also suggest you keep a running tally as you shop so you don’t lose track.
Consider if you really want or need it – Just because a bottle of perfume has 20% off in a Black Friday sale if it isn’t one you would usually wear and you have a cupboard full of fragrance already, it really is an unnecessary purchase. It is easy to get carried away but make sure you consider the questions, do I love it? or do I really need it? before every purchase – no one needs their house full of bargains that remain unused.
Do your research – Keep an eye on the social pages of retailers you are considering buying from prior to and during the Black Friday weekend. This way you can keep alert to sudden flash sales or further reductions and be on it straight away before products run out. Many sites announce the deals ahead of time on social so do get your notifications on! Tech products tend to go quickly so you may want o set your alarm on the day and know exactly what you want before the sales start so you aren’t wasting any time
Be prepared – You can get ahead of the game by signing up for retailers’ newsletters and email alerts for discounts and price slashing announcements before Black Friday. This means you will be the first to know about potential sales and deals and you may even be offered exclusive discounts.
Use your voucher codes – Voucher codes are a brilliant way to save, not just on Black Friday but throughout the year. Before you purchase anything, I would always advise popping on to a site like My Voucher Codes to see what codes are available. Their codes enable savings at a huge variety of online retailers. You can search for codes for the place you are thinking of buying from to check out all the possible discounts and deals. Alternately you can search categories to see where the best discounts are. If you are looking for Christmas gifts for the kids then you might search for and make some great savings in the process.
Never buy online without checking for voucher codes, You really can make huge savings and it takes mere moments. They really could make any Black Friday savings even better!
Do compare prices – When you have found what looks like a great bargain make sure you compare prices. This doesn’t need to be a long, drawn-out task, simply use Google Shopping or Idealo and enter the item you are interested in buying to find a list of comparative deals. It’s simple.
Pause before you purchase – each and every time. It is easy to be so excited by the bargains you see on Black Friday that you just splash your cash the minute you see a Black Friday sale sign on anything you are remotely interested in purchasing. Pausing before you purchase allows you to catch your breath and consider all the points made above. Have you looked for vouchers? Is this an item that you really want? Have you done your research? Can you afford it? A cup of tea before you press buy is a really important savings tip for making Black Friday savings.
Don’t forget Black Friday isn’t just the one day- it extends right over the weekend and into Cyber Monday.

Great post! I love looking for bargains and always check for voucher codes, but I’m always so disorganised that I haven’t decided what to buy everyone for Christmas by the time Black Friday rolls around so never take full advantage of the sale!
These are great tips! I think it is so easy to get carried away with the sales and end up spending more than you plan to.
I love the last tip..juat pause before clicking buy. Do you really need it. Great advice.
Great advice there. I especially love “pause before you purchase” Brilliant phrase and brilliant advice 🙂
Really great ideas! My favourite one is to check if you really need the item/s. So often as consumers we buy things just because it’s on sale! Not good, is it? I saw a TV in the sales last year and bought it just because it was on sale. A few months later, I gave it away as I didn’t really need it. I’ve learnt my lesson though.
What a great idea about pausing before you complete your purchase. I am certainly guilty of getting carried away sometimes. I will definitely putting this in to action.
Black Friday is great marketing to make us spend, spend, spend. Some great tips here to stop and think!
Great tips here, I do love a good voucher code, I always feel like I’ve got a bargain then!
Research! The most important one. Can’t wait for Black Friday!
Research, research, research!! So important not just to grab something because it’s on offer
Good advice, I definitely think it pays to do your research in advance!
