Travelodge helps unemployed parents return to work
Today I’m going to tell you about a wonderful scheme where Travelodge helps unemployed parents return to work.
Recent research with YouGov which showed that 86% of unemployed parents truly do want to get back to work in order to support themselves and those they care for.
The problems the research highlighted though were that that inflexible or anti-social working hours make it almost impossible for these parents – who are often women – to juggle their family with a job.
Armed with this research, Travelodge has set out actively to recruit unemployed parents who are looking for a flexible job that has the potential to grow into a real career as their families grow up.
Travelodge launched its bespoke parent’s recruitment programme in January 2019, with a pledge of 3,000 jobs.
The company received a record 45,000 job! All positions were filled.
Now stage 2 of the initiative and as the kids go back to school Travelodge chain which operates 567 hotels across the UK is looking to fill 1,500 jobs with flexible hours that purposefully fit around the school run, a supporting work buddy and access to management training.
Isn’t that just brilliant?

Yasmin Mohamed’s story
Yasmin Mohamed, aged 26, is the Duty Manager at Travelodge’s flagship hotel, London City Travelodge which is located close to Liverpool Street station. Here she tells her story :
I started with the company as Team Member, and within six months I was offered a place on Travelodge’s Management Training programme called Aspire. Whilst I was on the programme I learnt all the skills to become a hotel manager. Today I am the duty hotel manager at the company’s flagship hotel, London City Travelodge, I could not dream that I could come this far in such a short amount of time. I have a lot more steps to climb, as one day I would like to become the Operations Director for Travelodge.
When asked how this job with Travelodge has impacted her family life Yasmin says…
In more ways than you can imagine. For a start, I am a happy Mum and Travelodge has helped me to have it all! I can provide for my family, I have a clear career path ahead of me and I can treat the children to lots of short breaks which was not possible previously. I love meeting new people on a daily basis and it is so long to be able to put a smile on someone else’s face.
I am so pleased for Yasmin and I think this is a really well thought out scheme that has such huge benefits for parents.
Great job Travelodge
