The Brita Hydration Challenge and a chance to win a Brita fill and go bottle

Did you know that almost three quarters of parents (73%) do not know how much their children drink whilst at school?

I am embarrassed to say I have never ever given it any thought and I am in that number. Oops. Literally, I just empty what is left of her bottle at night, pop it in the dishwasher and refill it the next day. I think it is great she is encouraged to drink water at school but beyond that I have never really considered the matter.

Brita recently challenged my daughter and I to monitor her water intake and try and follow their recommended guidelines for drinking the right amount of water.

It turns our two thirds of parents (66%) do not know the recommended daily intake of fluid for children. Embarrassed to say it..but that was me too. I didn’t have a clue.

Oh dear.

We definitely needed to embrace this hydration challenge.

Brita sent us a special edition of their fabulous Fill&Go bottles complete with a sticker guideline for how much Lise should be drinking. The Fill&Go bottles enable the water in the bottle to be filtered before it is drunk through a filtering system in the lid. We each have one in my family and think they are rather fabulous!

This activity is to highlight the importance of children’s hydration throughout the school day with water and provides a fun way for children to learn about what they should be drinking and at what points in the day, based on official guidelines (the ruler outlines the amount of water that needs to be drunk by 1st break, lunch, 2nd break and home).

 How she got on

Well each day Lisi struggled to drink the the full amount (1200 ml)  Most days she got through just one full bottle rather than two. By the Thursday I realised giving her a juice drink in with her pack lunch was affecting how much water she drank, so I cut it out and she consumed 1 1/2 bottles that day. Much better!


On the Friday she pushed herself to complete the challenge and apart from milk at bedtime and a small fruit juice at breakfast this water was her only drink for the day.

It has shocked me to realise Lise was only drinking half what she was meant too, so getting into good water habits is now firmly on our agenda!

    After reading an article last year about hydration, I now monitor the amount of water I drink in a day, but it is harder to monitor what our children drink.

    I drink mainly filtered water cold from the fridge. My OH doesn’t drink enough water though

    yea because I listen to my body, I dont think I need 2 L to have clear skin and be healthy! when i was on holiday I drank over 2L

    Recently I have definitely tried to increase how much water I drink so I always have a bottle nearby makes me need to pee lots though !

    At work I do as I work 2 days a week I take 2 litre bottle with me for my desk and make sure I drink but at home it all goes to pot I need to make more of an effort 🙂
