Hi, what’s your name? Hi, I’m Sasha Cuff, inventor and owner of the Sanamama baby carrier (www.sanamama.com)
Any kids? 2 busy girls aged 7 and 2
Do you work? FT/PT? I work whenever I’m not on “mummy duty” so PT
Why do you work? Because I believe in my product and I want to make my business a success and intimately provide a better quality of life for my family and me
What are your child care arrangements? I use a child-minder 2 days a week and my youngest is also in a nursery 2 afternoons a week. I enjoy the flexibility
How do you manage for money? I’m lucky to have a supportive family. It takes a while for any new business to start making a profit so budgeting is essential.
Do you worry about money? Sometimes, but creating a realistic budget and sticking to it gives me peace of mind.
What do you waste money on? I really try not to but could probably do without my daily latte – it all adds up!
Have you made any big financial changes since having kids? I have gone from a steady fixed salary in a large corporation to the instability of being self-employed but if the risks are greater, then so are the gains – and I love the freedom of it.
How do you make extra cash? All my spare time is taken up with my business and at the moment any product sale is a cause for celebration!
Can you share 3 top budgeting tips for other parents?
1.Draw up a realistic budget and stick to it
2. Communicate with your partner so that you can keep abreast of each other’s spending
3. Shop around – the market is highly competitive so don’t buy the first thing you see
Sanamama is the baby back carrier inspired by generations of African mothers. Health and safety approved, it is designed to help you while out and about or at home, to get things done while looking after
you and your baby.
