How to save £20 on a small basket of shopping

Does this surprise you?

It’s a much bigger saving than I would have guessed from a relatively small basket of shopping.

Which? Conversation – Which?’s community website (www.whichconversation.co.uk)
have done some research into saving money on your weekly shop which is due out the October issue of the magazine (out on Thursday 22 September).

This research considers how much you can save by shopping around, without compromising on quality, it looks at everyday items from budget stores (like Aldi and Lidl) that scored highly in product and taste tests.

Here is an exclusive shopping list of ‘budget Best Buys’ which together can save shoppers over £20  a shop –that is  a saving of 53% compared to buying everything from one of the ‘big four’ supermarkets.

I lalways use Asda pricecheck as well. Today I punched in yesterday’s receipt and although Asda was cheaper, it wasn’t 10% cheaper so I got a voucher for £1.32. I don’t think I’ve ever not had something back. It’s a saving for nothing really. If you were to do that every week for a year it would fairly add up.

Love it! But we don’t have an Aldi anywhere near!
I tend to keep prices in my head, so I know where its cheaper to buy certain products and exclude these from our big shop if I know another shop does them cheaper.
    Look forward to more tips!

I have tried Aldi and Lidl but end up spending more on our weekly shop as they never have all of what we need so end up having to go to 1 of the big 4 Supermarkets aswell. Also I am not keen on the fresh fruit and Veg from Lidl-never lasts long, that said we’ve had some bad experiences with Tesco Potatoes and Carrots recently too. What seems to work best for us-for now is ordering our shopping online and getting it delivered.I tend to hunt out the special offers more. Clubcard points are always converted to cinema tickets which always gives us a lovely day out. If I had enough time I would probably visit a couple different supermarkets/stores to get all the bargins.
