5 Things They Don’t Teach Children In School That They Should

School is supposed to be a place that prepares children for what comes with adulthood. Unfortunately, most curricula neglect some fundamental areas that could help children to live healthy and accomplished lives once they graduate high school.

We’re here to provide a list of 5 things they don’t teach children in school that they should. If you’re a parent, you should consider making it a priority to educate your children on everything we’ve listed to guide them to success, prosperity, and happiness once they leave the nest. Things They Don’t Teach Children

Emotional Regulation

Emotional regulation is incredibly important, but the vast majority of people have no idea how to achieve it. In fact, there’s a large percentage of the adult population with a dysregulated nervous system which makes them prone to mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. If learning how to effectively regulate emotions happened at a young age, people would be much more likely to be able to overcome psychological barriers that undoubtedly will manifest as they grow older and encounter new challenges and experiences.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is incredibly important to a child’s overall well-being. Mindfulness improves sleep quality, strengthens important nerve pathways in the brain, enhances focus and learning, encourages creativity, fosters compassion, lowers stress, and many other incredible benefits for a child’s physical and mental health.

Managing Money

When it comes to what you learn in school, you’d think that managing finances would be paramount. However, the majority of schools don’t teach children how to budget their money, the pros and cons of credit cards, important financial concepts, the power of investing money early, or how to effectively save money. If schools taught children some basic information about these topics, they’d be better prepared to effectively manage their money once they graduate.

Nurturing Healthy Relationships

Relationships are one of the most important elements of our entire lives, and we go through multiple of them. Yet, we’re never taught in school how to nurture healthy relationships. This leaves children with little to no idea of what signs to look for in a healthy or toxic relationship once they reach adulthood. This is incredibly unfortunate as people often choose partners that aren’t right for them which seriously stunts their potential and growth in life.

Self-Love

The world would be a better place if people loved themselves more. The more loving the relationship one has with themselves, the more they extend this love to others. It’s why self-love is a powerful practice yet is nowhere to be found in the classroom setting. This absence of learning self-love leaves children vulnerable to experiencing insecurity, depression, eating disorders, and anxiety.

Final Thoughts

In a perfect world, emotional regulation, mindfulness, money management, how to nurture healthy relationships, and self-love would all be taught to children in school while they’re learning the basics of arithmetic and world history. However, this currently isn’t the case. This doesn’t mean that there isn’t hope, though. Parents can make an effort to teach their children these valuable lessons to make up for the lack in traditional educational settings.
