So the Sound of Music will be on (again) over Christmas. I do always watch it- do you? But is it the nations favourite musical?
Online marketplace eBay.co.uk has created its own musical ranking based on sales of related merchandise and found that the West End musical, the Phantom of the Opera, tops the charts selling two pieces of merchandise every hour.
I have never seen Phantom but oh how I would love too.
In the last three months, more than 3,500 Phantom of the Opera related items have sold on the site, with listings including an authentic fancy dress costume and a musical trinket box, yours for just £40.
Iconic Hollywood musical, The Wizard of Oz closely follows, selling 36 related items per day
In third place is musical hit turned Oscar-nominated film, Les Misérables, selling nearly 3,000 items in the last three months with current listings including a 25th anniversary DVD, an original cast recording, and a 1934 theatre poster for £1,500 – Blimey!
My Fair Lady (my personal favourite) comes in fifth, selling just nine products per day, ranging from soundtrack music sheets, to a 1960s theatre programme.
Newcomers Wicked, The Lion King and Chicago failed to make it into the top five, showing that the golden oldies of theatreland remain the most popular among fans.
